Thread Plug Gages

Arlight, I've gone and confused the heck out of myself.  Someone explain basic thread plug gages to me.

ASME B1.2 - 1983 vs B1.1 - 2003 specifically.

The Pratt Whitney Lab Master software is using ASME B1.2 - 1983, but when I get a new nib for replacement, they don't follow this?

Assume, I know absolutely nothing and explain this to be elementary style, please!

Any insight, or references are greatly appreciated as always.
