Job Description/Responsibilities

Perform calibration and repair activities in the Calibration & Instrument Services department of Laboratory Services in accordance with nationally accepted codes, specifications and regulations in compliance with the requirements of Laboratory Services Quality System, ISO/IEC 17025, and 10CFR Part 21 Appendix B. This activity may be in a laboratory environment or at a customer facility. Calibration technician responsibilities include:
•Calibrate measurement & test equipment using procedures and technical manuals in the areas of DC/Low Frequency, AC, Force, Torque, Vibration, Temperature, Pressure, Light, Gas Flow, and Dimensional
•Understand and comply with the requirements of an ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited laboratory quality system
•Perform calibrations and tests using automated and manually operated equipment.
•Be able to recognize equipment malfunctions and troubleshoot the root cause based on the theory of operation
•Understand equipment specifications and how to develop acceptance criteria using specifications
•Create new calibration procedures and test reports using manufacturer's technical manuals and specifications
•Perform repairs using test equipment, hand tools, and soldering equipment
•The ability to effectively communicate with customers and team members about technical issues both verbally and in writing
•Understand the concept of measurement uncertainty as it pertains to calibration and create measurement uncertainty budgets

The applicant will use Windows and Web based computer applications, statistical analysis tools and general mathematics on a daily basis. A good candidate will have excellent reasoning skills and be able to perform tasks using approved procedures, basic hand tools and measuring instruments. A working knowledge of electronic/electro-mechanical test systems and physics as it applies to measurement devices is required.

The applicant must be dependable, highly organized and able to work in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision. The successful applicant will need to remain flexible as overtime and moderate overnight travel may be required.

A good driving record with a valid driving license is required.

This position will be based out of the Jackson Trail Street Office in Jackson, MI.

Requirements/Qualifications
•Two-year associate degree in a scientific or technical field, (electronics related preferred, 48 scientific or technical credit hours as measured on a semester basis). The 48 scientific or technical credit hours can be obtained through colleges, technical institutes, licensed apprenticeship programs, trade schools, and/or military programs such as PMEL (Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory) or TMDE (Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment) training.
•Valid Driver's License

The following skills and experience will set you apart from others:
•Analog and Digital Electronic theory
•Hands on instrumentation repair and calibration experience
•Proficiency using Excel formulas, functions and macros
•Experience working in an ISO/IEC 17025 Accredited laboratory environment
•Coursework in Metrology or Statistical work
•Knowledge and experience with computer programming, specifically METCAL automated calibration procedure development
•ASQ Calibration Technician Certification
