I'm A Grandfather!

My 24-year-old daughter just gave birth to Jonathan Michael this past Friday.  Now, the baby is 3 months early, so he weighed in at 1 pound, 1 ounce, or 'round about 500g.  12" long.  Mommy is doing fine, and her husband has a perpetual grin going on...

I actually got to see him today, and man, is he tiny!  He was moving his arms and legs quite nicely, and when Momma touched his head in the incubator, he calmed right down.  I guess he knows his mother's touch...  Heart rate is up to 160bpm, blood tests are fine, blood pressure is good, and for being so early, he is doing great.

If you're religious, please keep him in your prayers.  If you're not religious, I'll post a picture of him here sometime, and you'll see what a miracle looks like.  My wife will deliver #4 at the end of April, and the new aunt will be a bit younger than her new nephew!  You'll start seeing 3:00AM posts from me after I'm done feeding the baby...

Jonathan passed away this afternoon.  At 8 days old, he beat all the estimates and fought hard, but he didn't make it.  The statistics say that a baby born 3 months early has a 20% survival rate, and he was born with underdeveloped kidneys, and they only last 2 or 3 days.  He fought for over a week, and we were optimistic, but God needed a small angel, and now He has one.

My daughter and her husband are doing OK under the circumstances.  I have an overwhelming feeling of sadness, but I'm happy that I got to know the little guy, and admire his spirit.

My next daughter will be born at the end of next month, and God will start the process all over again...

Thanks for all your prayers and well-wishes...

I almost didn't read the post for fear it would be bad news...
