I used to live in Kaneohe up to 2005 and I go back regularly to visit.  I promise you that salary is only enough for a single person with no ambitions of purchasing property.  The lab is very well set up as I've interviewed there when Yulista had the contract.  Oahu is my favorite place to be.  However, unless I hit the lottery I'm better off just visiting annually and owning property elsewhere.

Happy Live Hawaii, Oahu definitely has its challenges, but we have 20 people in the lab making the dream happen.  We even have a few homeowners. Price shock and traffic make it difficult, but life in Hawaii makes up for a lot!

Right!! Did you ever try the Loco Moco?  That's a heart attach in the making but it's damn good.  Even their macaroni salad is ridiculous!  Their mayonnaise is like 5 times as thick as regular mayonnaise.  Must be why the Samoans are so big.

I was there back in 2012 and I qualified for a 300K+ home based on my hourly wage only (civil service PMEL) so its definitely doable to live there

Oahu is great, on a WG2602 salary its pretty dismal, 300k will get you about 600 sqft

Exactly my point.  In Hawaii you are paying for the land and not so much the actual property.  If you get anything under $500k it's not going to be very nice.

Your only stating downtown prices. Noone lives in the tourist trap areas. Try Ewa Beach and get a place for $210,000 at 1000 Sq ft and work your way up from there.
