I downloaded the demo for Jack Black's Brutal Legend while I was on leave and it looks like it is going to be a pretty entertaining game.  Double Fine is involved in the productions, so that is promising.  They were involved with Psychonauts for the original XboX, which was a very under rated game.
The story starts with Jack as a roadie for a modern "metal" band.  During the concert, one of the band members walks out onto the stage prop that he had been told not to and falls.  Jack saves the band member but is then crushed by the falling prop.  Blood drips into his belt buckle which turns out to be an ancient relic and he is transported to another world to battle demons and save the future of metal.  It incorporates Black's sense of humor and his love of metal music into an entertaining and amusing format.  If the full game plays like the demo, it will definetely be something to play.  Guest voices include Rob Halford and possibly Ozzy Osbourne.

Grand Theft Auto!!!  My absolute favorite game.  I don't like doing the missions (I let my 20-yr-old son do that part).  But I like being able to drive anywhere.  The GTA San Andreas version had (in my not-so-well-informed opinion) the best functionality; but the new GTA IV has the best graphics.

I'm probably not the typical gamer though.  I can't play the competitive games, as they elevate my aging blood pressure.  But there is something relaxing about camping out on the fifth floor of an oil refinery with an RPG gun and blowing up every car that passes, getting shot at by SWAT in a helicopter; then at the last second, hitting the cheat code to turn off my wanted level.

DISCLAIMER:  I would never ever do anything like that in reality....

That's an interesting debate as to the appropriateness of such animated violence.  I have never been in a fight - ever.  I am a very non-violent person; and I find virtually no connection between such unrealistic entertainment and real life.  The people who I think  have no business with such gaming are those who make some unhealthy connection to real life.

Ok - ok - so I am late jumping on the gaming wagon. .  but I finally got my PS3 this week.

What are some good games?

I bought The Show 09 for a baseball fix.

I do not like "realistic" military games.

A good RPG?  I hear alot about Oblivion, but have never seen or played it.

Typical Games I like include:
Lara Croft
College Football (EA Sports)
Baulders Gate

So any recommendations?

I can't remember the full name of the adventure game demo version that came with the PS3, but we bought the full version and really liked it.  I'll have to find out and post.

Oblivion is real great and so is Fallout 3 for RPGs.  Grand Theft Auto 4, Batman Arkham Asylum, and UnCharted I & II are all bad ass action adventure games that deserve at the very least a rent if not buy.  Uncharted is pretty short though so it probably is just a rent.

Drakes Fortune.  That was the one.  I was corrected this morning that it was not a demo.  But it did go pretty quickly.  So maybe just a rental.

And he just downloaded the beta version of the UNCHARTED 2 Among Thieves - online version.  My son likes it, but I think it's just a warmed over version of Socom.  Just a room full of opponents shooting at each other.  I'm not against, but don't enjoy that type of gaming.

Great call on the RPG's I would wait on Fallout 3 for the Game of the Year addition. You get the original game which was great along with all of the downloadable content that was originally supplied only to the Xbox 360. Its a great game very addicting I recently sold the original and plan on buying the Game of the Year addition.

Just finished ODST for the Xbox......great game but kinda short I recommend a rental on this one.

Okay, I know it just came out but if anyone has picked up and played DragonAge: Origins I would be very anxious to hear what you think of it so far...

Anybody try Borderlands? If so which system or pc...

Prices seem a bit steep for me to jump on a ps3 and try it. Not that I can't afford it its just that $60 a pop is high.

I've heard its good but better if you do co-op as the difficulty seems to be based on two to four players.

I really don't have anything else right now.  Everything I'm playing on the 360 is back from when it was first released.  The closest thing I have played to new was the demo for Left 4 Dead 2.  While that game was well put together, it really wasn't quite my thing.  So I'm pretty much waiting until Chirstmas to get anything newer, and even then I won't really be able to say much because everything I asked for will have been out for a while by the time I play them.  I am so far behind right now it's not even funny.  I swear I'm never going to finish all the games that I have building up...

Modern Warfare 2 is a blast. I bought mine the day it released.

I started playing Batman:Arkham Asylum the other day, and so far the game is really pretty good.  There were a lot of complaints through the reviews that there was no "jump" available, and while I do find it a little odd, it really doesn't subtract much from the experience.  The story flows smoothly and the Easy setting actually lives up to its name.  The graphics are quite beautiful and it really gets the feel of Arkham across nicely.  So far I haven't played enough to rank the game, but as long as it keeps on the way it is, it should be a good game.
