Job Title: Metrology Technician

Reports To: Metrology Lab Manager

Group/Division: Customer Channels Group

Career Band: Band II/Associate Track

Location: Vernon Hills, IL

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt



Position Summary:Performs calibrations of; instruments that measure the characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as pressure, temperature, time, force, torque, speed, flow, electric current, voltage, resistance, and derived units of physical, mechanical, or chemical measures: Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Prepares calibration reports which detail; methods, measurement data with uncertainties, TUR', and NIST traceability. This job requires standing about 60% to sitting @ 40%



Essential Functions:

1. Performs calibrations on distributed Cole-Parmer, Davis Instruments products as well as customer's measuring instruments.

2. Quantifies sources of measurement error and determines measurement uncertainty with TUR's.

3. Communicates with customer's to resolve "technical" contract disputes or issues.

4. Assists customers with measurement and NIST traceability questions.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.



Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

High school or GED, PMEL or other military/technical
At least 2 years of Metrology experience

Non-Negotiable Hiring Criteria:

1. Must possess practical knowledge of Metrology and measurement practices.

2. Must possess knowledge of related quality systems and practices (i.e. ISO 17025, ANSI/Z540-1).

3. Must have analytical skills to identify sources of measurement error and to read and interpret technical schematics, specifications and calibration procedures.

4. Must have good communication skills to respond to metrology questions in writing or orally, in a clear, concise manner.

5. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.



Working Conditions:

This position is primarily standing, comprising 50-75% of the working shift.
Most of the work will be performed in a technical lab with conditioned air.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs with assistance.
May require up to 10% travel.
