There is currently an opening at the Owego, NY site.  You work as an Independent Contractor, as a Metrologist, working with on-site personnel to develop and implement the ISO 10725.  Calculating uncertainties and reviewing procedures is a major part of your daily task load.  The task is challenging at times and requires you to be tad diplomatic. Everyone is a customer. If you have ever wanted to start up a business as a consultant in Metrology, this is great place to start .

really not enough $$ to be your own business and contract out. Should be twice what it is if you account for all the benefits, holidays and vacation.

Did you check into this already? What are they paying?

RFCAL

I was told $55 per hour, but you must provide your own insurance, pay your own holidays and vacation and you need a mechanism to bill and pay taxes. You also need to pay them back for any relo advanced. Don't know if you can negotiate any more $$

Do you have to be co-located, i.e., live nearby, or can you work remotely for this position?

RFCAL is in the ballpark on the wages, since your an independent contractor, you are responsible for your own holidays, sicktime, and vacations. Take them if you want them, but you don't get paid unless you work on-site.  I live in another state, commute weekly and have all my business records located there. I pay taxes as a self employed person and it works fine.  Just take 36% off the top and save it for later.  However, there is an initial start-up costs to these ventures, and having a small business consultant, in my opinion, is a must in the beginning. I'm still sorting out all the details for tax time. You're not going to get suddenly rich off of this venture, but it is a great primer in small business ventures, with low risk and you can make some money on the side. Every contractor does things alittle different.  IM me if you want more details, or to see if this is workable for you. I'll be honest on the pros and cons of the situation.

jimmyc - You're correct in your thought process. Someone had their thinking cap on. :-o

Jobs are only diplomatic if people don't like you.  Well, that's at least what I've found in the past.  That is why it is important to get along with co-workers

I resigned from this job so I could be closer to home, kids, family, etc.. I can give people information if they desire within a PM.  One thing though, it's very important, if you are hired, to not discuss the pay or pay range, especially in a public forum.  I believe that was an immediate grounds for termination in the contract... I think..  :-o

Shoot me some PMs and I'd gladly give you more information.  The location up there was very nice, I admit.
