Anyone here work for them? They keep talking about the great training they have. Is that true or just talk? I have gone to other companies in the past and found out they had no training available.

Promises are very cheap to make when you are luring someone from one job to another.  Especially when you give up your current employer and transfer your world under another umbrella, are you going to then leave because they aren't going to give you a week long class? Many of their positions have been available for quite some time, that might tell you something.  You might also want to ask what their turnaround is at that location.  Make them put everything in writing, I assume you have a job, they need you more than you need them.

Another big question is what part of Tektronix are you looking at?  The Mobile labs (MSO) or fixed labs.  They operate as completely different operations and to internal different standards.  Mobile has to keep and maintain three very high dollar contracts, so they are taken about as serious as I've seen commercial calibrations run.  Mind you that's not that high of a standard.  The fixed sites, well those are as good as the managers run them.  Some take quality as a priority and some just want to compete in their market, which means you have to make compromises.  I personally hate making unsound compromises and prefer not to work commercial.

To give you advice about the company you may want to be more descriptive about what type of position they are offering you.

GET IT IN WRITING FIRST!!!REMEMBER, THEY ARE NOT REALLY TEKTRONIX ANYMORE.THEY ARE DANAHER.
YOU ARE PROBABLY BEING RECRUITED BY A HEADHUNTER--REMEMBER,THAT THEY WILL PROMISE YOU ANYTHING TO GET YOU TO ACCEPT AND REPORT

looking at a lab. Not mobile operations.I am actually trying to find someone that currently works there to tell me about conditions there.

FWIW I attended a class up there about 10 years ago, was treated very well by all involved but after hours I found people on the street not as friendly as I am used to here in Texas.

First let me say, I agree commercial is not as strict at adhering to the rules as military labs.  Having said that it is a job!  It is always what you make of it.  If your biggest concern is training, they probably don't want you anyway.  They need somebody that already knows what they are doing and can figure out on their own the new stuff.

I don't want to get off on a rant here but:

As far as the work climate goes, the whore has worked for A LOT of companies in PMEL, commercial cal and in other electronic fields as well and let me tell you they all have their own issues, from jerking you around with HR issues, inflexible working hours, lousy bosses, crappy coworkers the list goes on.  If you need a job and the job is where you want to live, you take the offer they present you, negotiate your best terms for salary, vacation etc and go with it, or keep looking.  There are good and bad aspects of every job, unless you are emptying septic tanks.  If you want evidence of being jerked around visit my thread, "I got out (again)".  I certainly wouldn't wish that situation on anyone, but that was the worst situation I have ever seen, and as I said I have worked for a lot of companies.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.
I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
