Sirs,
How many times should you "click" the ratchet on a outside mic? References too, thanks. HUGE debate here.

MIRCS

As many as you want, one, three, twenty......once you have the feel the reading will never change.

I remember back in like 2001/2 dispelling the great micrometer ratchet myth with Chief Boatright....all the AF types said one click I clicked it 1, 3, 10, 20 times and got the same reading everytime.

If you remember we were taught 3 clicks in IM "A" school. At least I was taught 3

I was taught three also in IM "A" school, it's all about consistent pressure and feel.

yes but us "knuckle draggers" as we are called are the best! I love being K6.  Wouldn't have it any other way

K-6 rocks. I spent most of my PMEL years as a knuckle dragger...5yrs at Ramstein (00-05). Stay there as long as you can. You'll spend every minute missing Germany after you leave.

And yes, I was taught 3 clicks too.

I have to stand with MIRCS on this one. I doesn't matter after you have the correct technique if the micrometer is working properly.

I can remember 3 clicks, then it went to 1 click, then back to 3 clicks with the AF. And don't forget the really old micrometers that had slip rings with no clicks and the REALLY old ones with nothing at all.
