I'm trying to find some work internationally and if anyone knows any thing to help me out I would appreciate it.   I'm really only interested in work that pays 100000 or better.   I know that probably only leaves me with Iraq, Afgan, or maybe Kuwait, but I don't care.   Daddy's gonna pay off some bills.   I applied already with KBR in Iraq.   Also if you have any tips about going over there or would like to share your experience I would appreciate it so that I will have a better idea of what I will be dealing with.   I was in the Marines, but I only work in the Gulf at the beginning of OIF so I don't really know what it's like on land.   I would like to try an expedite this as fast as possible so that I can go ahead and do it before my wife changes her mind.   Thanks for helping in advance.

My friend was working in Afgan and he said he could hire me for around 80k per year. However that is working like 84 hours a week from what he said. Thats right 44 hours overtime per week so lets say  you are making $20 per hour right now you would earn around $108K for the year. So what is the pay over there??? From what I can figure that is less than $16 an hour. I will try to find his address for you. Last time Ient him an email he did not respond though.

There has to be something better than that.   I could go to Alaska and make 34 an hour.   Hell I saw that job with Lockheed making over 80k and that was in UAE.

There isn't much.  There's always something out on Kwajalein.  If it were accompanied, I was considering it.  A good friend just took a job in Kuwait (a lady tech - and it's tough for women workers there).  You have to keep checking all the major websites, as those jobs are sporadic and show up briefly for the lucky ones who find them.  There are a number of ex-military job hunting websites that occasionally post PMEL jobs overseas.  Raytheon sometimes has things, and some of the other big contract companies.

Also, as I mentioned in another posting, check out BAE systems.  They have an ongoing ad for PMEL folks in Saudi Arabia.  If you are a high end person with the very particular background they are looking for, I believe the pay is pretty good.

May want to try Yulista at Feltwell AFB UK.   I believe the pay is around 45k GBP which is around $90k

The problem with Feltwell in the UK is that you have to pay your own taxes now, so don't expect to bring home 90 K a year, because the cost of living will break you.
BAE in Saudi is about 80 K a year, and almost anything in that area of the world is about the same, and if you go expect to work all of the time.
The guys in Kwaj at most make about 50 K a year, but the cost of living is covered.
Alaska is great, but $35 per hour up there is close to $24 per hour in the states because of the high cost of living and union does and so on.
My point is this: There are no PMEL jobs that pay much more than 80 K a year, and no PMEL job anywhere making 100 K a year period.  If you want to make 100 grand a year go back to school and get into another line of work (or you could just wait for inflation. )

yes but you have to consider the fact that housing and food is generally included in Afgan and you are not paying taxes (up to 80k no taxes)

well I guess I should lower my expectations.   One of the reasons that I was looking at the middle east was because its tax free and they pay for housing and food.   As far as the work goes it can't possibly be any worse than working onsite were production is the primary concern of the lab.   I just want to talk to someone that can give information. . . and a job.   I really want to do this and get it done as soon as possible.   I swear though that KBR pays over 100k to work in Iraq.

I wouldn't recommend England because the taxes will eat you alive. any offer from there, cut it in half because that will be your taxes.  50%.

Many of us make over $80K a year but that is due to overtime. I don't know anyone making $80+ base pay.

Bae in Saudi, last I heard are on 5.5 day weeks (typical in the area).  A couple years ago they were paying overtime on top of that from what I heard, but not a lot of it.  Good benefits and you'd find it hard on single status to pay more than $15-20k for running costs.  Most PMEL/Metrology jobs in the Gulf area are done by third country nationals (TCN's).  That would be Filipinos, Indians, Pakistanis etc...at about 1/4 of what you'd expect to earn.  When I left Saudia Airlines I was one of two westerners left...the rest of the lab was nationals and TCN's.  There is some PMEL work done on US made aircraft that is advertised in the US...but I forget the contractor...Al - something or other.  Raytheon advertises rarely for jobs in Jeddah, keep an eyeball on their website.  Lockheed has a lab or two as well...definitely one in Jeddah...but mostly TCN's as far as I know.

Taxes in the UK are not 50%...sliding scale like most places.  If it was 50% we'd have boatloads coming here....and I wish that was the case....would give some balance to immigration here.  If you're curious, there is hardly any PMEL work down here.  Calibration and ISO are only just, and barely just, starting to catch on here.  I moved down here many years ago and went into biomed and industrial equipment..then went to work for a university doing low-level cal and repair of lab and field equipment.  Now some I.T. work as well....on about 68k USD at the moment...it's reasonable but the cost of living and taxes are higher here.  That said, nice place and highly recommended.  Mostly free medical, unpolluted for the most part, laid-back lifestyle....a lot like the US too but definitely different as well.  Gotten homesick a few times.....but then Oz is getting to be home too...Worth a look if you want a real change...

BAE is on a 5 day week in Saudi at the moment with no overtime.   The pay is @ $75K with your bonus at the end of 2 years added to the salary.   Of course that doesn't include the money that you get for travel 3 times a year.
