Duties: Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, optical/laser, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE).  Selects, applies and interprets electronic principles and practices to collect, reduce, display, analyze data, and provide metrology information.  Prepares test and certification reports for customer use.  Interfaces with user and manufacturer of test equipment to clarify questionable areas concerning use and accuracy of instruments or nonstandard TMDE.  Assists and advises users in instrument application, measurement accuracy, and recommended calibration requirements.  Implements, adapts, modifies and periodically develops technical procedures required by the changing user or equipment requirements.  Serves as a specialist in the physical/dimensional measurement areas including radiac. 

About the Position: The TMDE Support Center-Ft Eustis is a small Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Center team which provides calibration and/or repair of TMDE for 9000+ items for 100 Owning Work-Centers.  Flexible or adjusted work schedules available.  Parking is available on-site. 

Fort Eustis, Virginia is located in Newport News, between historic Williamsburg and Virginia Beach.  Transportation includes convenient interstate and major highways connecting the city to neighboring Hampton, York County, Gloucester, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, and Smithfield.  The Tidewater area has all the conveniences of a big city with charm of small town and rural areas.

Qualifications: Applicants total work experience and training must have involved the duties as listed above under "Major Duties".  Applicants must meet the Screen Out Element which is the Ability to do the work of an Electronic Measurement Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision.  If you do not meet the screen out element, you will be evaluated ineligible.  Applicants must also possess the following job elements: Ability to apply practical knowledge of metrology, electrical, electronic and electromagnetic theories, mechanical, pneumatic and nuclear science to the collection of measurement data; Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as frequency domain analysis, and statistical concepts such as frequency distributions, sampling and sample distributions and presentations of measurement data; Must have practical knowledge of troubleshooting techniques and practices to repair Test, Measurement, Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE); Ability to interpret technical procedures and schematics and adapt them to diverse and complex calibrations assignments.  ***PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work may require long periods of standing or sitting along with some walking or bending during the course of extended periods on measurements.  Requires frequent lifting, carrying, and handling of items weighing up to 40 pounds with occasional requirements to lift items in excess of 50 pounds.  ***WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed in laboratories and user facilities where technicians are exposed to the hazards of high-voltage, high pressure, high and low temperatures, chemicals and radiation.  Calibrators must comply with all safety regulations applicable to the calibration mission.  Must be able to perform the work independently and assume responsibility for technical adequacy, accuracy and quality of completed tasks.  ***OTHER INFORMATION: Applicants that do not provide the required information regarding experience and/or education will be evaluated ineligible.  ****ICTAP: Surplus or displaced Federal Civil Service employees must be rated well qualified in order to be considered under the ICTAP programs.  In order to be rated well qualified for this position, you must receive a rating of 90 or above, excluding veterans preference, if applicable.  VETERAN'S PREFERENCE: For information on veteran's preference, please refer to the following website: http://www.opm.gov/veterans/html/vetguide.asp.  MILITARY SPOUSE PREFERENCE: For information on military spouse preference, please refer to the following website: http://www.cpms.osd.mil/fas/staffing/pdf/st006.pdf.  ****Candidates who falsify their resume may be fined, imprisoned, barred from Federal employment or removed from Federal employment.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time; or recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching and reaching. 
Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

Hey Navy
Just a note.  I suggest you get your resume into the Army database before the closing date of this announcement.  That is the best way to apply for the job.  The resume builder will walk you through it.  It should be at the CPOL link in the announcement.  Have your info laid out in a word doc and then cut and paste it in.  That way you won't have to worry about "timing out" if you're just typing it in from scratch.  Another suggestion, there is a site that has all the Position Descriptions(PD) for the jobs they post, unfortunately I don't have that link anymore, if you copy the description into a word doc, modify it to fit your qualifications but leave a lot of the phrases in, paste it into your resume, it should get you an interview. 
I hope this helps, I retired 1 1/2 years ago, so everything may have changed!!
