POSITION TITLE:   Metrology Engineer - Optoelectronics
LOCATION:   AFPSL, 813 Irving-Wick Dr. West, Heath, Ohio 43056
SUPERVISOR:   Laboratory Manager
CLASSIFICATION:   Exempt
HOURS:   Full-Time Monday thru Friday
SALARY:         $58,240 to $81,952, commensurate with relevant education and experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Metrology Engineer, Optoelectronics, provides engineering support for Laboratory and Technical Order functions in the Photonics and Nucleonics Department in the AFPSL.  Successful candidate will design, develop, test, and maintain all aspects of optoelectronic measurement systems which include equipment, automation, methodology, uncertainty, data analysis, and reporting.

REQUIREMENTS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
1.   Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or Physics
2.   Experience in one or more of the following Optoelectronics areas: Luminous Intensity and Color Temperature Measurements, Illuminance and Luminance Sources and Detectors, Spectral Transmittance of Filters, Non-Contact Thermometry and Blackbody Sources, Spectroradiometric Detectors Spanning UV to Mid-IR, Spectral Radiance and Irradiance of Lamps, Spectral Responsivity of Detectors, High Accuracy Laser Power and Energy Meter Calibrations, Fiber Optic Power Meters
3.   Familiarity with measurement automation and modern programming languages (specifically .NET) preferred, but not required
4.   Must be a U.S. Citizenship
5.   Must be eligible or have successfully completed a National Agency Investigation check within the last ten (10) years.
6.   Working knowledge of metrology theory, principles, and practices in assigned measurement areas
7.   Understanding of theory and application of measurement uncertainty analysis
8.   Understanding of database structures and analytical tools and techniques

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  Essential/Typical Duties:
•   Research and analyze data, such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
•   Directs and coordinates activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.
•   Coordinates operation, maintenance, and repair activities to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment
•   Prepares or receives flowcharts and diagrams to illustrate sequence of steps a program must follow and to describe logical operations involved.
•   Analyzes workflow chart and diagram, applying knowledge of computer capabilities, subject matter, and symbolic logic
•   Confers with supervisor and representatives of departments to resolve questions of program intent, data input, output requirements and inclusion of internal checks and controls.
•   Enters program codes into computer system
•   Test and monitor the performance of programs after implementation.
  Non-Essential Duties:
•   Perform other related duties as assigned.

Occasionally requires: Climbing, Stooping and Kneeling
Often requires: Reaching, Pulling, Pushing, Standing, Sitting, Walking, Talking and Hearing
Lifting/Moving Requirements:
•   Up to 50 pounds
Environmental Conditions:
•   Generally works in an environmentally controlled work space.
