Duty Assignments

I thought it would be cool for people to post their duty assignments and years they were there.

I was in the Air Force from 1989-1996
Lowry AFB, CO 1989-1990
Bitburg AB, Germany 1990-1992
Whiteman AFB, MO 1992-1994
Luke AFB, AZ 1994-1996

Since I got out of the Air Force, I've migrated out of calibration work and into quality inspection work in the manufacturing industry, primarily aerospace manufacturing.  Calibration is actually an "additional duty" for me now. :(
I've been working with mostly physical dimensional equipment for measuring.
I got into doing Layout Inspections, Coordinate measurement machine (CMM) programming and now in using 3D modeling and CAD work (Unigraphics and Mastercam) for performing inspection on large aerospace (military and commercial) tooling.

I'm looking to switch gears and get into computer network administration.  I've finished a 7 month school to get my MCSE and MCDBA.  Finished with A+ certification earlier in the year.

Places I've been so far...

Kirtland AFB, NM  1995-1998
Seymour Johnson AFB, NC  1998-1999
Kunsan AB, ROK  1999-2000

separated 2000-2001

Nellis AFB, NV  2001-2004
Keesler AFB, MS  2004-

Not at Keesler yet, but will be leaving Vegas in about 2 weeks.  Probably teaching upstairs, more than likely TACAN and 7-level.  :D

Hey Hoopty,
Did you know Kristine Davis (it may have been Mosley also) when you were at Seymour Johnson?
I'm not sure if she was still there at that time or if she had left yet.
How about Jeremiah Durphey?

That last post was me.  I didn't realize I wasn't logged in and that you could post as a guest.
Sorry.

Tom,
Yes I knew Kristine, and  I was very sorry to hear the news earlier this year.    I haven't talked to Tony since I left Seymour.  I hope he's taking it ok.  Tony and I were stationed together at Kirtland too.

And yeah, Durfey was there too.  Still there from what I here.

Also, just to let you know,  I changed the permissions so you have to be registered and logged in to post in all the forums.  I didn't realize that the default settings allowed that.

I never did get to meet Tony.  We had a little reunion last year with some Whiteman AFB folks in Vegas.  I had hoped she would've been able to go, but she had found out at the time the cancer spread to her brain.  Her brother contacted me a month after her death to let me know what happened.  We were stationed together at Bitburg and Whiteman.  She was a great friend.  I was very sad to get the news.  Her last group of emails to me were very heart breaking.  I called her once, but she started crying on the phone and apologized for not being up to talking.  I hope her husband and kids are doing alright.  I lost my mother at a young age and I know how hard it was for me and my dad.

Durfey (I couldn't remember how to spell it) I knew since basic.  We were in boot camp together and all through PMEL school.  He went to England when I went to Germany.  We hung out in tech school.  He was a strange fellow, but always a nice guy.  I think I picked on him too much back then. ha ha.

This is the kind of thing I always liked about the PMEL field in the AF.  You can always manage to find someone who worked with former co-workers and friends. :)

I had some former co-workers at Nellis as well.  James Pryan, which I'm not sure if he was still there when you arrived.  And Rodney Hartwig, which is still there I believe.

Do PMEL labs still do the Christmas card thing?  Always thought that was pretty cool too.

Yeah, Pryan left like the first day I got to Nellis.  He left to be a recruiter, not sure if he's still doing that or not.  Probably.

Hartwig is leaving in Oct or something like that to join the audit team.

The cards have pretty much all gone on-line. But yeah, almost all the labs still make one.  Although, we hardly ever get a paper version anymore.

That gives me a good idea.  I'll create a section where we can archive all the Christmas cards for each year.  That might be pretty cool.  Can even ask people that still have old ones to scan them and send them to me.  Create an archive of sorts.

PS is that you dancing in your avatar?  lol

Ha Ha!  No that's not me in the avatar.  It's from a British show, which I can't remember the name of right now.  There's an American copy of the show coming out on Fox this next season.

James is still a recruiter.  He was at our Vegas reunion, he actually initiated that one.  He said he loves the job, and from my years of knowing him, he was perfect for it.

Cool idea with the Christmas cards.  I have two that I scanned for Whiteman AFB PMEL from 92 and 93 Christmas.  Hartwig actually found them and emailed them to me.  I think he found them with a bunch of old ones there at Nellis.  But I may be wrong about that.

Can you e-mail me those?  I'll try to find the time to make a section for those.  I've got most of 2002 that came electronically.

I'm surprised others haven't shared what duty assignments they've had.
On other military based forums, it always seems to be a high interest topic.
Especially since PMEL folk usually can find out about someone they were stationed with that other members may have been stationed with at an other assignment.
