I got this idea from a post in "pad your post" by coup.
Help out the rest of us.  What is the best vacation you have had?

Not your typical vacation, but after 10 months of 100-hour weeks in Italy, my boss TOLD me to take a vacation.  (I was a little stressed)  So I packed up my wife and kids, my secretary made all the arrangements for hotels, and we spent a week in Italy (Rome, Florence, Bologna and a lot of stops in between), then a week in Germany (Rothenburg, Munich, Neuschwanstein Castle, Oberammergau, Garmisch).  No phones.  No laptop.  My secretary was the only person who knew where I was.  My assistant project engineer flew over from Cincinnati and kept my chair warm and the project on track in my absence, so when I got back to work there wasn't a pile of crap needing immediate attention.  My kids really enjoyed it, as they got to see EVERYTHING.  They didn't like the concentration camp at Dachau, but it sure was a sobering experience for them, and they learned a lot.

Travel tip: don't spend just one day in Florence.  You'll need at least three to see all the good stuff.

Here stateside, we have a Disney Vacation Club time share in Orlando, so we spend a week with the Mouse every year.  Coup's gonna teach me everything he knows about sheep the next time I'm there.  You can't buy vacation memories like that!  :-D
If it works, it's a Fluke.

I spent 11 days in the Highlands of Scotland right before I quit my job with Raytheon in '03.  Best vacation I've ever been on.

They had lots of sheep there too.  Coup would have been very happy

Normally any time spent away for the job. Summer on the sailboat out on Lake Erie, this coming 4 day weekend on the Erie islands, ( yes I'm off today ). The best according to to my big kid was the Washington trip when he was in 8th grade, all the kids who went remebered me. I brought up the rear of the column, no stragellers ( sp ) the entire trip. Taught the kids something also, at Arlington, the Vietnam Mermorial and at the Washington Navy yard, who says the young won't listen to us old vets.

I don't have a vacation that stands out but I do have a spot that I always enjoy going to.  Sunriver, Oregon is a vacation community.  A lot of the shops are gone due to commercialization in the nearby city of Bend, but the bike trails make up for some of that.  Plus there's the marina, airport, stables, etc.  Overall, a good vacation spot!

DEFINITION OF A VETERAN:

A veteran - whether on active duty, honorably discharged, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in

Something must be wwrong with me.  My idea of a great vacation is hiking in the guadalupe mountains and desert with no one at all around.  Maybe I need to widen my horizens a little
