I received this from Bill Young and am passing it along for any of you who may be looking for a job.


I am a recruiting manager at Verizon Communications.  Verizon currently has openings for Metrologists in various locations.  The locations are as follows: Boston, MA, Pomona, CA, Baltimore, MD, Washington D.C., Everett, WA, Virginia Beach and Newport News, VA, and Tampa, FL.   

Responsibilities include, but are not limited too:
Calibrate, test and repair equipment (T&ME – Time and Measurement Equipment), which includes meters, scopes, TDR's, signal generators, thermometers, humid graphs, super micrometers, gage techniques, optical, high frequency, temperature/humidity and dimensional instrument
Provide instrument calibration services and diagnostic technical support for all networks and outside plant facilities via a mobile calibration secondary lab.
Determine metrology requirements from manufacturer's manuals, laboratory methods, or system requirements.
Make precision adjustments and/or compile calibration data to ensure the appropriate transfer of accuracies from standards to unit under test, i.e., Test Accuracy Ratio's.
Determine if unit is unserviceable or uneconomical to repair.Diagnose, troubleshoot, disassemble, repair damaged components, align, completes all repairs and clean all units in compliance with the Quality Plan. Assist metrology technicians in the calibration, repair, and alignment of T&ME.
Replace components in compliance with proper soldering and desoldering techniques as outlines in ERS' Quality Manual, Workmanship Manual and/or policies and procedures.
Perform job functions via a mobile laboratory or on customer’s premise, which may require being away from home for extended periods.   In addition, job function may be in a depot laboratory/shop environment. Familiar with the requirements of ANSI/NCSL, Z540-1-1994, ISO 9000, and ISO 17025.
Perform statistical process control (SPC) observation duties as qualified and assigned.

Basic Qualifications:
Successfully complete Verizon pre-employment testing.
Requires lifting of up to 75 pounds
Must hold a valid state driver's license.
May be additionally required to operate manual shift vehicles and/or obtain a Valid state chauffeurs and/or meets federal DOT requirements/licenses (i.e.Commercial Driver's License - CDL).
A blend of 2 to 4 years education/experience with a strong understanding of electronics and a basic understanding of metrology (e.g., analog, digital, RF, microwave, optical, Physical, dimensional theory, etc.).

  I got that too a few days ago.  I had asked him about pay and benefits and he answered right away.  The pay looks pretty good for experienced people, but I did not like any of the places they need people for.
