Job Opportunity – Measurement Standards Specialist III (Limited Term)

General Position Description:  Measurement Standards Specialist III (MSS III) position in the Division of Measurement Standards, California Department of Food and Agriculture. The MSS III position enforces the Business and Professions Code and coordinates the activities of the Division of Measurement Standards with the work of county sealers of weights and measures and with other Federal, State and county agencies involved in this work. Incumbents provide guidance on technical and regulatory requirements to manufacturers regarding design and performance criteria.  For a complete description, visit the CalHR website.

Specific Position Description:  50% Measurement Standards Specialist III (MSS III)/
50% Metrologist. Under the direction of an Environmental Program Manager I, this position is responsible for performing technical analyses, tests, and inspections of electronic and mechanical weighing and measuring instruments; developing and maintaining the physical and regulatory standards for these devices in the State's Metrology Laboratory; providing training and advisory services to State and county weights and measures officials on the proper inspection and certification of weighing and measuring instruments.  For a complete description, search by job title (Measurement Standards Specialist III) on the California Vacancy Search (VPOS).

Salary Range:  $4,106.00 - $5,140.00 per month

That salary is really low....

A few years ago I was on the hiring list for Principal State Metrologist and the salary wasn't much more than this, which was especially bad when you consider the ongoing furloughs that were taking place at the time that would have lowered the pay by 20%.

$25 per hour in CA is like $17 in Texas.
