You mean Sypris Test and Measurement? Oh wait, do you mean Tektronix Services Solutions? There may be some reorganizing once they get the name right, but all those companies are good companies to work for. I'm only familar with Sypris, but I've heard good things about Davis as well.

You have got to be kidding me!!--I wouldn't let Davis within a mile of my cal lab--very poor workmanship. They may be a little better since Tek took them over, but still!!-no way!!

If you really want to know, ask an insider (not management). With commercial cal you never know what you're getting...very little 'real' oversight.

I worked for a comercial lab, the manager's favorite saying was "If the customer's not complaining, then there's no problem"

I no longer work there.....

I wouldnt say thats true.  You dont know what your getting if you dont ask.  I look at my data do my own audits and review procedures from the "Commercial" lab I use.

Your the customer.  Its up to you to determine if the service you receive is what you need.

I have worked for Sypris in the past.  I imagine that like any other commercial side cal lab, it is a different animal than the government side.  With the commercial side the company makes money by trying to support as many customers as they can with as little as possible.  This usually means that some corners will be cut, to make calibrations as fast as possible.  The quality of the equipment turned is usually in the hands of the actual technician, with the variable of how hard managment is breathing down their neck.

Just my experience from what I've seen. . .

Do you verify traceability of the stds they use? do you actually watch how your equipment is calibrated? Are the stds actually traceable outside their lab? I spent 2 years in commercial and saw enough smoke and mirrors to last a lifetime. That's why I want nothing more to do with commercial cal, or at the very least my former employer. Our lab manager and "QA techs" had zero calibration training or prior cal experience before their current positions. Alarm bells should go off right there.

Almost took a job with Davis...then I got better and now I work for Uncle Sam.
Their benefits package was not very good. I suspect Sypris' benefits may drop from what they once were now that they're part of the conglomerate as well.
Could have been worse...
Sarcasm - Just one more service I offer
