CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN

FLSA:      NonExempt        Reports To:      PMEL Manager   

Project:   Aerospace Support Services Contract (ASSC, Vandenberg AFB, CALIFORNIA)

OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:  Independently determine and perform operations required to calibrate and certify electronic and physical/dimensional measuring and test equipment, maintaining traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Air Force Metrology and Calibration (AFMETCAL) Program 562 Combat Sustainment Group (Metrology), or other AFMETCAL program office approved sources.

TYPICAL DUTIES: 
•   Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, aligns, modifies, calibrates, and certifies Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) in accordance with Air Force Technical Order 00-20-14 and other contractual requirements.
•   
•   Utilizes calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.
•   Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms.
•   Diagnoses and repair malfunction in complex measuring and TMDE using theories of operation, block diagrams, schematics, logic trees, and software diagnostics to the component level.
•   Provides training to apprentice technicians on metrology principle, resolving technical problems, and complicated electronic theory.
•   Inspects measuring and TMDE for preventive maintenance, cleanliness, and safety requirements.
•   Analyzes and interprets results of measurements and calibrations using mathematical formulas and documents results of measurements and calibrations on calibration certificates and calibration correction charts.  Must be capable of observing critically to obtain and document clear, concise, and accurate data.
•   Must have ability to work independently and perform other duties as assigned.

REQUISITE SKILLS:

•   Working knowledge of the repair and calibration of electronic/electro-mechanical, process control equipment and mechanical or related area.  Aerospace experience preferred.
•   Must have excellent verbal, technical writing and communication skills.  Must have great attention to detail and be quality focused.  Excellent customer service skills.
•   Physical Dimensional experience required.
•   Advanced skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and industry specific software.
•   Capable of heavy lifting (50 to 80 pounds).
•   Must be able to attain and maintain a Government security clearance for access to classified information, facilities and equipment.
•   Must possess a valid Driver's License.


MINIMUM REQUIRMENTS:

Experience:  Minimum of 2 years of current experience (within the last 10 years) as a metrology laboratory technician in equipment.  Working knowledge of electronic and physical/dimensional principles and theories; troubleshooting techniques to the component level; metrology techniques and laboratory practices; personal protective equipment, clothing, tools, and safety knowledge; PMEL facility and environmental system requirements; AFMETCAL Program functions and procedures; analysis of block, schematic, wiring, and logic diagrams and technical data; experience and knowledge in inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, overhauling, aligning, calibrating and certifying (automatic and manual calibration) TMDE laboratory and working standards; computer operational principles, language, and software; and ensuring traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Education:  Prefer successful completion of United States Air Force's PMEL School or equivalent.  If PMEL school not completed, must have completed a minimum of a two-year electronics college or university program; or minimum of two years of related experience working in a calibration facility.  Applicants must be able to provide proof of formal military PMEL training if claiming completion.

Just curious, but I thought Vandenberg PMEL was operated by Yulista. Is there more than one lab there?

Nope..only one lab.  United Paradyne took over the contract...they've been the prime and Yulista was a sub to them for PMEL previously.
