TRC Environmental, Inc.  - This job opening is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC.  TRC is a contractor for the EPA in Chapel Hill and we primarily operate, maintain, and modify the pollutant delivery system at the Human Studies Facility there.   TRC has had this contract for over 30 years and I have been employed there since the beginning.   I was a PMEL Technician in the AF from 69-76 and started this job after I was discharged.   We are looking for someone accustom to doing accurate and precision work such as you would find in a PME lab.   Please respond to "meade. scott@epa. gov".

Job Description

The position is for an environmental engineer/technician to primarily operate, maintain, and modify the pollutant delivery system at the Human Studies Facility in Chapel Hill, NC.   This system includes:
   Pollutant gas and aerosol monitors used to measure pollutant concentrations in various locations
   Pollutant generation equipment required to generate and control these pollutants
   Automated pollutant gas calibration systems
   Computer systems used to automatically measure and control the pollutant concentrations required to control and measure the pollutants
   Equipment used to measure and control the temperature, relative humidity, air flow, etc
.
The position also includes moving gas cylinders, analyzers, and other equipment from place to place and support of the HVAC and biomedical systems in the building necessary for the successful operation of the facility.


Skills

Required:

Must be able to read and understand operation manuals, standard operating procedures, and other documentation written in English.   Must be able to communicate with others in English.   The ability to follow complex written procedures.   The ability to work with computers.    The desire and ability to do precision work day after day.   The desire and ability to learn new things, to develop new procedures, and to work under pressure in a changing and challenging environment.    The ability to work directly with the client on a day-to-day basis.   Must be organized and be able to keep detailed records.

Desired:

A knowledge of using manual methods for sampling aerosols and weighing filters. 


Minimum work experience and education and training experience

Required:
A four year college degree in a physical science.
   

Preferred:
A four year college degree in a physical science plus several years of experience in operating, maintaining, and calibrating air monitoring equipment.
