Any one out there have any information on the Sypris FAA Mobile Cal Team.  Looking for information on pay scale, per diem, overtime, and pay raises.  I was told 2 weeks out and week in 1 or you expected to work the full week when you are not onsite?
Any information would be helpful :-D

I have a friend who is on one of Sypris' mobile teams.  He makes around 75k per year (calculated with per diem).  I'm not sure what the base pay is before per diem.  There are some folks on the team who manage to make a bit more (80k+).  You are correct about the 2 and 1.  That's 2 weeks on the road and 1 week at home (off duty).  You can live anywhere in the CONUS, but you'll be racking up the frequent flyer miles all the same.  It's aimed more at the single tech, but if your marriage is solid, I'm sure it'll work out.  Pay raises are usually in 6-12 month increments.

Hello I work for Sypris and I have never heard of the 2 weeks on 1 week off deal?? Also we only get annual raises and it is nowhere near the salary that this guy is talking about.  My friend applied for this position awhile back and he was a senior tech with 15 years in the field starting salary was $23 per hour.  These guys work a boat load of overtime that is where the 75K figure comes from.

Also the pay raises are once yearly.  you also need to have the space to park and store that big mobile unit and the truck to haul it.  They are generally 5th wheels so you better have a bid driveway.

jones. . . . I stand corrected about the time off.  It's 4 days off after 2 weeks on the road.  However, I AM correct about the 75k per year.  I clearly stated "WITH PER DIEM".  Yes it does involve considerable overtime as do all onsite jobs. . . it's the nature of the game.  As far as needing a big driveway, you are WRONG.  Although it's individual perogative, at no time are you required to park the rigs at your home.  Sypris has locations to park the them (usually near airports).  You might work for Sypris, but that doesn't make you an expert regarding the mobile cal team.

jones

No need to get rude about it.  I was just making a few observations.  By the way Mr. Technical per diem can in no way be counted as part of your salary since you will be spending that on hotels and food while on the road.

I had thought about going to the mobile team before. I did not realize you got 4 days off every 2 weeks. I wonder how that works with your vacation? Someone on here has to know there are a few Sypris people on here. That's a pretty good deal being able to park the rig/truck at the airport.

It is 10 days on the road and 4 days at home.  You fly out on Monday morning and you fly home the following Thursday.  Occasionally you do 16 days on the road to set you up for a holiday weekend.  When you do that you fly home on a Wed vice a Thur.

There are a few more bennies.  You get all your frequent flyer miles (which add up), you get all your hotel frequent guest points.  This is a good perk if you pay attention to them.

I work for Sypris MSO and really enjoy it.  Sypris is a very good company to work for.  In my opinion
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN:

A veteran - whether on active duty, honorably discharged, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'

That is Honor, and there are way too many people in

The manager over the MSO @ Sypris is a great guy too. All the guys seem to like working for him.

I worked for Sypris MSO back in 1999-2000.   The money is good, if you handle it well.   I was able to pay off all of the bills I had accrued and at one point didn't touch my paycheck for three months, subsisting on per diem alone.

Pros:
Travel
Interesting folks
Pay
Personal experiences
Work Experience
Lots of air miles (new golf clubs ftw!)

Cons:
Away from home
Paying rent/mortgage on a home you seldom see
Wife/gf wants to go out to eat when you're home. . . (get enough of that)
Sleeping in motel beds. . .
If you don't like you're partner, you're miserable.

I had two partners, one was an old salty retired Army dog who was cool as the day was long and a fellow who was lazier than you can imagine.   If you don't have a good chemistry or can't keep your mouth closed, it can be a very small workspace.
For what sounds like complaining, it wasn't a bad experience.   Most of it becomes second nature.   You get used to it.   If you've deployed, you'll be familiar.
On the upside, I really enjoyed the travel.   Seeing places I never new existed and enjoying the variety in life was a real bonus.   My route carried me through my hometown, so I got a few free weekends of visiting with my parents.   My wife enjoyed not having my butt on the couch and we really made an effort to do special things for each other when we were together.   I just had to make her cook for me at least once a weekend!

If you think you and your loved ones can hack it, it's a great opportunity to learn a few things.
I build Rockets, baby!

Yeah, a bud of mine worked the mobile loops for a while with Sypris, he says pretty much the same as RedBones.

And yeah, for a zoomie, he is a cool guy  :-D
