I think I should have my vision checked. I thought I read $20.62/hr. Oh, wait.......I did.        I heard people were a little slower down there, but that slow? You gotta be kiddin' me! They have a "Have You Heard Any Good Jokes Lately" thread on here. You might wanna try in there.

Here's a link to their "resume"

I have heard that they want to bid on some of the USAF contracts, so we'll see.

That's 'good' money for Alabama.  Lets see. . . decent houses start at under 100k, gas is cheaper than most places, taxes are low, etc.  Not saying I'd live there (god knows I wouldn't), but the pay is definitely decent for the area.  It's definitely better or at least on par with a lot of the smaller commercial labs, where profit is above everything else (quality included).

ZZ,

Have you ever heard of supply and demand? The housing is so cheap because nobody with any sense wants to live in Alabama. What they need to do is beef up the pay to stoke the demand. You're not going to attract top-tier talent with bottom-feeder wages. It's insulting to offer such a paltry salary to someone with the experience they're looking for.

You do have a point though, about what commercial cal labs pay. You really do get what you pay for.

I'm glad I'm not in the private sector anymore, I can't afford it.

Duck. . . what you fail to realize is that there are quite a few 1st term Airmen ( also Marines, Sailors, Soldiers, etc) that are from the south who would gladly jump at the pay.  Just because you wouldn't move there for that pay doesn't mean someone else wouldn't.  I would agree that places like Eilson, Minot, and Grand Forks need to offer high wages to attrack anyone crazy enough to put up with those winters.  I retired after 20+ years in PMEL for quite a bit less than what I expected.  $50k+ cal jobs are pretty scarce.  If you want to make real money and a shot at upward mobility, calibration is not the best career field to achieve that

Correct me if I'm wrong, but first term airmen etc won't have 8 years experience either.  .  .

Am I missing something here? I am not a whole lot above that and I am 14+ years in the field plus experience in every discipline I can work in any corner of the cal lab. Maybe I need to dust off the old resume and start looking again?

SMR, Inc.  does have openings for Technicians at Maxwell as well.  This position is for the Quality person and we are looking for someone with more experience and has work in the quality section doing QR, PR and assisted in the RCA.

If someone is interested in working at the Maxwell site send me your resume and I will contact you.
Send your resume to donaldr1955@aol. com or call me at 405-739-5080.

Thanks for the honorable mention for Minot, zz.   :-D

I have to say though, that I think every lab in the ACC contract makes at least $5. 00 more an hour than Maxwell is offering.   That's just for techs, not tech IIIs.   Most of the guys on this site have been around the block a few times and know what the going rate is.

You may well get someone who is from around there or has relatives in the area, and I wish you luck in that endeavor, but no matter where you're located, you'll have to pay for good techs.

NASA in huntsville,AL starts tech 1s at around $26 and that aint too far from maxwell.  Problem is many of these companies bid the DOL wages for that area.  We have a problem recruiting people for much better wages.  50K jobs are very common in the cal field, esp. at military contract jobs.  i won't say what i make as a QA lead but it is more than that.  we do work under that bad U word though.

I have a $50k+ cal job.  8-)

50k is  $24.038461538/hr.  sorry about all those digits, but wasn't sure whether to truncate or round.

I wrote 50K + meaning more than 50K per year.
