In my experience with Simco, they are not forthcoming with $$/salary.  Purely speculation, but It appears to me they are more interested in ITT grads or ex-military techs w/less than 4 years experience, since they'll take the lower paying jobs.  Simco is not at all good about replying to job inquiries.  They have all these job listings on ecalibration. com, but when I've made attempts to contact them, I've received very few responses.  Maybe some other folks have had better experiences, but its hiring department hasn't been at all friendly to me.  Simco. . . you only get what you pay for.

Ill agree with that statement.  I went in for an interview with them and they had guts enough to tell me that with my "overtime" I would make what I was asking for.  I don think so.

That is typical of Simco and several companies.  All companies seeking seasoned calibrators want your talent, knowledge, skill etc but aren't willing to compensate according.

Sorry to hear you guys are disgruntled with wages. From an economic perspective the service industry in general has a low profit margin. This translates to commercial business not being able to afford to give above market wages. SIMCO Electronics pays at market and even above market over time. We offer stability and growth to our employees. If you are interested in discussing opportunities at SIMCO Electronics I would be happy to talk with you. 408-548-4577

i agree and disagree, what is a very experienced tech that needs no training and no real supervision worth?  what does 6-9 months of breaking in a tech cost.  can this one button pusher be moved to an area where backlog has suddenly become unmanagable? does his advanced experience equate to greater production than a guy who has been "trained" to push the right buttons.  i can glue pvc and sweat copper pipe but fall way short of calling myself a plumber.

Well, a technician that needs no training or supervision is in the eyes of the beholder. An employer would be reluctant to assume any technician is at this level right off. We need to train all our new folks on internal systems. It take at least 1-2 months for the most experienced technicians to come up to speed on our business applications. I understand that it cost money to go without an experienced calibration technician. I agree that everyone should be paid a fare wage. If you do not think you are being offered a fare wage you have the right to decline. Compensation is a complete package including monetary and non-monetary benefits. Every company offers some of both.

Bottom line folks. . . get as much education as possible so you don't have to work for peanuts.  It's not enough anymore to be highly skilled even in an under-manned career field.  PMEL techs are among the best and brightest, but you wouldn't think so with the wages being offered out there.  Tweek on!
