Yes, I'm an ET, GS-12
There are a wide range of ET jobs and I have found PMEL experience places you well ahead in this field in terms of general electronics knowledge and ability to quickly resolve problems. A few unique positions require extensive test equipment use but they are few. The most common TMDE used are your meter and maybe an IFR.
Field ET work covers the gamut from car installations of equipment, radio work inside and outside, alarm systems, video systems, computer hardware, networking backbone support (routers, switches), supporting agents with communication equipment, etc. ET's are the jack-of-all-trades - as such the work is very interesting and much more up and down than the constant flow of equipment in and equipment out of a cal lab.
