Title: New Phase Noise CPIN
Post by: mdbuike on 04-29-2007 -- 07:37:02
Well, AFPSL has done it again..they rescinded the old CPIN, issued a new one (but didn't really advertise it), and we finally got ours last Thursday...well guess what, it has issues on the NT machine.

We've contacted some other labs, and those who are running 2000 aren't having any problems..and those running XP have found you have to get Agilent's new digitizer..but on to other things....

As I have seen, if you are running NT, it has a hard time uploading the previously save files (.pnm)..I have over 200 files used for calibration and troubleshooting, and they are nearly useless..they will load, but...the definitions screens will not change from the last manual configuration.

Now, we do 5 to 10 generators a week, and manually setting each reading, and then ensuring they are correct, will take extra time (i.e. the 8663A, we've saved the settings for each band, the custom FFT, and limit lines.  We've also saved troubleshooting runs for various problems (fans are fun to troubleshoot..not them stopping, but raising the noise floor between 1 kHz and 10 kHz)).

What I'm looking for is this..has anyone out there managed a work around for the NT machine, this being a time of budget restraints, and the USAF is not going to spring for a new computer any time soon.

Thanks,

Mike

What did the AFPSL have to do with it?  Aparently you intended to mean AFMETCAL.  AFPSL is operated by Bionetics and they calibrate the Base Measurement Standards for the PMELs.  AFMETCAL runs the Air Force Metrology Program, and if there was a CPIN issued, it was issued by AFMETCAL, not the AFPSL.  Although both are located in Heath OH, they are two separate entities.  You should take that CPIN problem up with the AFMETCAL TCM.

Running what came I believe 3. 02 (3. 03 just adds more compatability) on NT puter.

Don't bother with the old files.  Apparently there's some new settings to use in the manual or somefin like that.  10 averages high resolution and a new thing to get the whatchamacallit.  instead of 1 x 10-9 its now 1 x 10-7
