Title: 8902A w/ 11792A Tuned RF above 1300GHz
Post by: TTG on 03-08-2007 -- 17:15:59
Hey there again,

Been a while since working in RF and mixing, I have a question.

I thought the 8902A with using the 11792A could do 'tuned RF' for attenuation while locking on to the frequency put out from the 11792A's down convertor.

I am having issues getting this to work properly without mixing.

Issue I am having is I am getting too much loss through the little BNC mixer I have and no access to a microwave convertor.

Any ideas? Is there a special code I need to be using, I thought this aspect should be plug n play for the most part.

Thanks!!!!

Terry

The 11793A must have an oscillating frequency that's 120.56 MHz above (added) to the 8902. Usually it's from some type of synthesized generator outputing into the microwave converter, and then to the sensor head of the 8902. Hope this helps! :-D

And then ?27.1 Special? and then whatever the mixing frequency is?  It's been a long time since I've used one, so don't quote me on it.  I just know that you have to tell the 8902 that it is being mixed and what that frequency is.

question more revolved around down converters, figured it out though, it ois impossible to do tuned RF without a 11793a above 1. 3 G

I thought i may be able to substitute a mixer or use a power head but alas i was wrong

One thing to remember, readings below -90 dB above 1.3 GHz are "typical"..takes some digging through the original manuals, but it is there..we do not certify attenuators above 1.3 Ghz in synthesizers for better than -90 dBm

As an aside, we developed a neat little routine to verify the operation of the new phase noise frequency divider using the 8902MMS..give a holler..I can also send you our sig gen files..
