I'm the training manager for a PMEL and was wanting to setup a new training book. I was trying to find a good picture of harmonics, subharmonics, and non-harmonics. I think this would make it easier for the trainer to get his point across to the new technicians.
My advice, get a digital camera, an 8566 spec an, some signal generators and a comb generator, and take pictures of the screen showing harmonics, subharmonics and spurious..a mis-aligned 3325A is great for spurious, of course, then you have to realign it..
And while it is not emphasized as much, mixing spurs..which is why I advocate the 8566 over the 8563..
If you have the commercial data for the 8662 or 8663, do the spurious verification thier way, not the K procedure way, and while it takes time, it can be enlightening..
Also, if you have a phase noise system, spurs can be checked that way.

Exactly what I was going to suggest, as I prefer the display on the 8566 for training purposes for ease of explanation. A good digital picture can be taken or a series of photos then you can edit pics in Paint or other photo edit program and label the harmonics and subs appropriately, which would make the training session a bit easier.
Unfortunately our 8566 was NRTS a ways back and has not been replaced yet. We do have the 8563, I will have give it a try. I was hoping there might have been existing examples out there. Thanks. :-D
Set your function generator to SQUAREWAVE - since the square wave is generated by multiple harmonics, it gives a great harmonic display way up to the 10th+ harmonic of the selected frequency. As a side note, this is also a great way to calibrate the lower frequency spans (10MHz/div and less) - sort of like a low frequency comb generator.
As for sub and non harmonics, I am not sure what the square wave generates. Another, good source, if I recall correctly is a cavity tuned oscillator found in the 8640. It is a very clean CLOSE IN source be generates lots of harmonics which are cleaned up by the circuitry. I am just recalling this from troubleshooting one over a decade ago so someone else may have better, more current input on this idea.
Your best bet would to be goggle search the Navy NEETS training modules. Those things are OUTSTANDING!!! You can thank me later.
try this link. Hope it works for ya!

I think that would be a good site to bookmark. Lots of good info on there. Thanks for sharing.
NEETS kick butt...............I have all modules and duplicates of most.
Well then, can a brotha get a 'cert-star' or what? :-D
I'll give you one. That contribution deserves a little love...
My brotha..... :-D
I have the complete NEETS set on a cd. If anyone is interested I could possibly burn and copy for you.
For those who contacted me. I just got my CD back. Unfortunatly I am in OH working right now. I will be home next week. I will make the copies and let you know when they are sent.
OK, I got the CD just seem to be having problems copying it. Any help?
Is it in Adobe (.pdf ) format? If it is , why can't Jesse just load it onto the forum?
I probably could, depending upon how many and their overall size.
Are there 24 modules on your CD Bradley? If so, all can be found here: http://www.phy.davidson.edu/instrumentation/NEETS.htm
I'll see what I can do about getting something going here though.
