Title: 5310-F21????
Post by: PMEL_DEVIL-DOG on 09-25-2006 -- 07:28:51
What's up, fellas?
I'm back in the States...ahhhh!!! what a great feeling! Anyway, I got a problem calibrating this 5310-F21. The Navair procedure 17-20SJ-42 calls for a DSRB5CD4 decade synchro decade bridge, which works like a champ. The Air Force TO 33k1-4-342-1 calls for the North Altantic 540 which we can't get to work. What a piece of crap. Any gudiance on how to get this thing to work? We don't have a DSRB5CD4 so we're stuck with the 540.... :x

It's been a long while, but if that's the piece I'm thinking of, I ran into this problem at Ramstein.  To fix it, I took apart the decade bridge and cleaned everything inside with trike (tricloroflouroethane), including the post connections, and put it back together.  I don't know if it was the cleaning or dumb luck, but it worked fine after that...

Try borrowing some good cables from K8, too.  Old black and red Pomonas may not do the trick for you...

What problem with the 540 are you having

The problem is that with the 540, we can't get the pavm to null out when the 540 is adjusted. It works fine with the DSRB. attached is the set up for the Air Force(540) and Navair (DSRB). Please review...

Try some high-quality cables, as short as possible.  If you have a K8 cage, do it in there.  That'll keep the noise out of the hook up, and help the PAVM settle down.  Thoroughly clean all contacts and switches on the decade box, and make sure any powered unit has the SAME ground (any floating ground will make nulling the meter difficult)...

If that doesn't work, send it to Chuck Kulpa at WRAFB PMEL and he'll do it for you (I know, it's Kay & Assoc., but Chuck is a PMEL tech par excellence)

I sort of recall a problem with those too. I believe it was a ground problem and the set up in the K-Pro never worked, but for the life of me I cannot remember. I agree that you need to make sure that your cables are good and short as possible, but it really sounds like a ground problem that I used to have. I would focus on the ground. If I remember I will let you know what I did. :|
