Department Overview:

The PG&E Applied Technology Services (ATS) Instrument Calibration and Repair (IC&R) lab, located in San Ramon, provides quality calibration and repair services for a wide variety of equipment in use throughout PG&E. Our services include measuring and test equipment testing, calibration, and repairs. The unit has 'Primary and Secondary Standards' capabilities in several areas including AC and DC voltage, current, resistance, temperature, pressure, airflow, dimensional, time and frequency. Calibrations performed for nuclear power plants are performed in accordance with federally mandated nuclear and internal Quality Assurance program requirements.

Position Summary:

The individual in this position will perform lab and occasional field assignments, maintenance and repairs, and calibrations using a wide variety of instrumentation. The individual will conduct non-conformance investigations and create reports. Although the majority of the work is procedure driven, the individual will lead .... This position also requires some fieldwork and travel through the PG&E system and may require physically demanding work (lifting and loading equipment).

Travel Required:

10% of the time including occasional overnight stays within the PG&E territory

Job Responsibilities

Perform calibrations and repairs of various instrumentation used within PG&E's Lines of Business.
Set up complex measurement & test equipment (M&TE), data acquisition, and test beds for advanced calibrations. 
Assist with existing and future projects including continuous improvement efforts to increase throughput and efficiency.
Lead the development of calibration procedures and datasheets
Perform reverse trace and impact analysis of out-of-tolerance equipment
Perform calibration database administration functions as required
Serve as Subject Matter Expert and technical resource in various calibration disciplines and train other technicians on the team.
May coordinate portions of overall assignments, direct, review, analyze, and integrate the technical work of others.
Will be required to assist or perform laboratory and field tests, repairs, calibrations, and investigations of a difficult nature on a wide variety of materials and equipment and prepare reports thereon.
May be required to perform tests in the field without direct supervision


Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum:

Two-year degree in:  electronic technologies, military PMEL, or equivalent metrology training.
5 or more years of experience working in a Metrology laboratory, or equivalent.
Ability to perform physical work equivalent to lifting 60 pounds approximately 12 times a day.
The qualifications of an Engineering Technician II with five or more years' experience and the demonstrated ability to perform work of a difficult nature.
Ability to perform complex uncertainty analysis
Highly detail oriented, and ability to follow written procedures closely
Calibration experience in the following types of equipment:
A)  Pressure
B)  Electrical
C)  Flow
D)  Temperature
E)  Dimensional
F)  Torque
G)  Mass
Valid driver's license
Desired:

The successful completion of metrology certification (e.g. Certified Calibration Technician via ASQ) offered under the guidelines of a nationally recognized engineering or scientific society
Knowledge of MudCats/MetBench/MOX Metrology Suite (MPS Programming)
Mechanical skills to construct and repair test equipment
Ability to lead projects in the lab, field, or at PG&E or customer facilities.
Proven ability to work safely within industrial environments.
High level of proficiency with MS Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Experience with programming in Visual Basic, LabView, SQL, Crystal Reports
Strong mathematical abilities and troubleshooting and analytical skills.

This is a represented position, and the salary is $56.00 - $63.00 (Hourly Wage)
