A month ago both of our HP 8673D signal generators went tits up, so we sent them to Agilent for repairs only to have them rejected... Agilent says they stopped supporting the 8673D in August 2004. So now we're scrambling trying to find a substitute or replacement, since we're shut down in that area... What does the USAF use in place of the 8673D? Anybody else notice dwindling support from Agilent on the older HP equipment? We're gonna be in a world of hurt if they stop supporting the 8902A!
the last I can recall the AirForce was replacing those with Anritsu's.
The 8902A is in the process of being replaced.
The AirForce was talking about that a year ago when I worked at a contract PMEL. They will get the replacement after the replacement is obsolete. :-D

It's already obsolete.
And the replacements for the replacements are obsolete.
And the Air Force won't even buy those.
Nope, they have to pay for the pedicures for the airmen living in the DORMS.
Makes me long for the days when I was in the Army... They wouldn't buy us the equipment we needed, and we had nice old wooden barracks to live in...
At least Agilent was nice enough to tell us what was wrong with the 8673D's... I asked them what we could do, and what was their reply? "Uh, look on ebay, there might be one there you can get some parts from." Kinda makes me wonder...
Luckily, a different section failed in each one, so our rf guy is gonna "shotgun" them until we get one working. In the meantime, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a surplus unit on govliquidation.com or whatever...

I never got pedicures....Air Force sure has changed a lot over the last several years. :-D
Okay, you had colon flushes.
Oddly enough...I was going to state the same thing about Navy guys in my next post, but you beat me to it. :x
hehehe... :-D
It's too bad the Air Force couldn't just replace the 8673D's with the E8257D Sig Gen's...

Scott,
I wanted to let let you know that we have repairing 8673 series generators for many of the government agencies and private sector companies. If you ever need any repair services just drop us a line or visit our website www.oplinksolutions.com (http://www.oplinksolutions.com). Also if possible try not to mix and match assemblies to make a good unit. This method might be a quick fix now but mightly prove costly when trying to repair later. I think you might be pleased with what our company can do you and the rest of the Forum. Have a great Day!
Thanks... Actually we did repair one outright without swapping subassemblies, the other one is waiting on parts. And we have two more on order through govliquidation.com.
Recently we ordered a spare Fluke 5220A transconductance amplifier through Testmart.com, but they got it from Teknet electronics, who must have originally got it from your company, because it has Oplink cal void and warranty stickers on it. (Maybe next time we'll contact you directly and cut out two layers of middlemen!) The unit was in great shape, and I verified the calibration, and all was in tolerance. I'll keep you in mind whenever we get the other 8673Ds in...
I bet I know some of the techs at Oplink. I used to work up that way for GE & then ElectroRent Corp. in Duluth.
I used to work for ElectroRent in Chicago and we do have a few ElectroRent Duluth tech's here.
