Title: SR. Metrology Technician at Belle Chasse, LA

We are currently seeking a Metrology Technician III to join our team in the Navy Calibration Lab at Belle Chasse (New Orleans), LA. Qualified candidate must have a well-rounded skill set in the Electronics /Microwave areas and Physical Mechanical areas to include items such as direct current/low frequency, radio frequency/microwave equipment use and calibration as follows.  DC Power Supplies and Loads, Multimeters, Meter Calibrators, Semiconductor Analyzers, Logic Analyzers, Arbitrary Waveform Generators, LCR Meters, Phase Generators/Meters, Oscilloscopes, Frequency Counters, Function Generators, Spectrum/Network Analyzers, RF Signal Generators, Measuring Receivers, Power Meters and Sensors, Waveguides, Experience with automated calibration software, pressure, Digital thermometers / Thermocouples, Vacuum/Pressure transducers and gauges, Load cells, Proving Rings, Scales and balances, Calipers and Micrometers, Torque wrenches and drivers and Flowmeters. Any combination of these skills would be considered. Applicants must have good communication and organizational skills and be able to work well with other team members as well as interact professionally with government employees.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:

1. Minimum Ten (10) years experience in Test, Maintenance, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) calibration and repair, preferably in a military calibration lab. Experience to include: inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, aligning, calibrating, and certifying TMDE, metrology laboratory working standards and safe work practices/procedures.
2. Completion of a DOD accredited PMEL School or an Associates' Degree in Metrology.
3. Possesses the knowledge required to read and analyze block, schematic, wiring and logic diagrams.
4. Ability to troubleshoot and repair non-functioning TMDE
5. Must have or be able get a Secret clearance

A secret clearance for a calibration tech? Who put that silly ass requirement? A calibration tech has no need for that level clearance.  :roll:
I only needed an confidential while in the Navy and when I worked at AUTEC's lab.

That's because they calibrate the gages that are used on the secret submarines that go to Atlantis. It's an onsite. You might get to meet some of the squid people too. Oh... They're called Cajuns, sorry.

That's because the Confidential went away and secret is the lowest level now.  They're required for some communications test sets, particular frequencies...etc.  Also required for onsites to particular no windowed buildings with lots of avionics.

Pretty common these days for DoD calibrators to have a secret clearance.

No one here is required to have anything but NACI (the new confidential) which is pretty basic. I would guess there's some reason for a secret, but our higher HQ slaps a secret on virtually anything where they are.
Secret squirrel calibration
