Title: HP 4815A RF Vector Impedance Meter - leaking oil
Post by: oldhpfan on 12-25-2016 -- 14:03:23
Hi forum!

I have a HP 4815A that works but is leaking oil from the internal tuning capacitor. Is there someone here with experience of this problem and what oil I should use to fill up with once I find the hole and got it tight (and where to find the oil). It's now quite messy with oil so I guess it will need more. No need to be in spec but it would be nice to keep this nice instrument for high impedance measurements. The instrument has unfortunately been stored in outdoor temperatures and well below freezing for many years.
I assume the oil is used to increase the capacitance.

Thanks for any hints,
Bo in Finland

Bo,
You should look at;

As stated the oil may be a PCB so you should use some caution.
Good Luck.

Thanks Mr M!

Interesting reading indeed.
I may attempt the same trick with my unit if I can find the oil.
