Title: Strobe Light Tester
Post by: Mike99 on 03-09-2015 -- 07:25:02
Does anybody know where I can get an American Aerospace ST-4000 Strobe Light Tester Calibrated?  I have sent it to American Aerospace but all they did was 1 to 1 comparison to their ST-4000.

I would've thought they'd use a 5700A or a function generator into an LED.  A 33250A with timebase locked to GPS should be 4:1

We use the GPS/33250A/LED method. We can calibrate it for you. Look up TMIcalibration.com.

I may be mistaken but I think this unit measures strobe light intensity in candelas and the setup with a generator and led would be for frequency units.

Either way we can calibrate light meters too.

Not correctly you don't.

Just contact Jimmy Hyatt.  Tell him that you know how he did it, but how did he really do it?

It is possible that the mfr. performs the 1:1 cal using their "gold" standard, something that is common for high accuracy or unique items.  In that case, they would have to find ways to calculate their uncertainties to lower values than what they specify to the users.

This is not a common item and I would not suggest sending it for a "light meter" calibration unless the lab is very familiar with the cal procedure.  Issues like reflection, brightness, distance to target, are crucial to the calibration.
