We are on the lookout for an Optical Metrology Engineer on a long term Contract opportunity out of Rochester, NY. Our client is one of the nation's largest manufacturers and supporters of Aerospace products and is looking for candidates to join their ranks!
Metrology Engineer description:
This position will support the payload integration team, supporting both design activities as well as hands-on test execution activities for a variety of space based products.
The selected candidate will perform the following duties:
Perform optical metrology and optical test tasks in support of Geospatial Systems Products Integration (PI) work flow, in conjunction with more experienced engineers; Provides technical support regarding optical alignment and testing to the PI engineering team performing design, research, evaluation and development of complex space and airborne payloads; Uses the application of engineering standards, principles, theories and techniques for planning and executing alignment and optical test of components and systems; Helps develop alignment and test procedures based on higher level test plans developed by optical system engineers
Operates hands-on optical / mechanical / electrical / software test equipment, including theodolites, interferometers and laser trackers, typically in conjunction with other optical metrology engineers and technicians; Writes test data reports and assists with presentation of test data and other test-related analysis for peer reviews and customer reviews; Responsible for maintenance & integrity of test equipment; Helps to perform defect tracking during testing and assists in analysis of root cause, effects, and prevention; Assists with specifications and other documentation for development and procurement of optical test equipment; Good communication skills and willingness to work as part of an integrated team.

Matlab, Labview, CodeV, Zemax, 4Sight, Spatial Analyzer, spreadsheets and other office software
Required Skills:
B.S. Degree in Optics, Physics or a related technical discipline or an M.S. degree with Optics related coursework experience required
0-4 years' experience in Optics, Physics or a related technical discipline;
Ability to follow established procedures and processes; Disciplined approach to testing and documentation of processes and results
Ability to utilize various computer analysis routines to process data
Exposure to Optical and Laser-based testing. Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well with engineers, scientists, technicians, managers, and customers.
