Title: Balance Calibration Procedures
Post by: jrlloyd on 09-17-2014 -- 13:25:53
VIA GIDEP i am in the process of plagiarizing some K procedures for analytical balances.  The procedures all reference a "Rice Lake MMS" for calibration equipment.  Rice Lake has no idea what "MMS" refers to, model # etc. Can anyone give me any additional info on this reference?  What is the Rice Lake MMS base master set?  What class, type, ASTM # etc are these weights?

They would be referring to the Rice Lake Mass Measurement Set. The were a 1mg to 20kg mass set in the 1,2,3,5 configuration issued probably in the late 1980s or so.

I believe they were ASTM E 617, Class 1, Type II, stainless steel weights. Nothing fancy. Any calibrated Class 1 set of weights with mass values reported will substitute for them.

Thanks Dave.  Much appreciated.
