Title: On noting the software versions on the cal label
Post by: dallanta on 01-26-2006 -- 19:21:04
Anyone have any opinions on this?  I am an old believer in the more you put on a label, the better your chances of making a mistake.

We don't get to put Frequency cal'd only (Its a 40 year old Piece of sh!t!) on stuff either.

I guess opinions really don't matter much when it comes to a TO 00-20-14 requirement.  You know what they say...opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink.  At the end of the day, after all the whining and crying is over, the software version will still have to be noted on the label because that is what the Air Force wants.

What section are we talking about? I understand if you use a different cpin than the one called for you must list it in the speciale block.

Here is the section of 00-20-14 we're discussing (at least I think this is the one! :-)):

5.4.2.3.8 If TMDE contains user upgradeable firmware, or non-managed operational software*, which may impact
the TMDE calibration, the software/firmware revision shall be annotated in the special block.
* "Operational software" refers to software provided by the TMDE manufacturer required for basic instrument
control, or to provide basic software utility functions. "Non-managed" indicates the software is not formally
managed in the Air Force CPIN or TO system.
It's not a liimitation, just an annotation.

Ummmm....OK....

Still not talking about CPINs.  Maybe I'm way off the mark here.

Pacifier must be iterfering with my thinking :-)!

ROFL,  Thank you, thought I was the only one here with an attitude.
To be safe, unless it changed today and I did not hear, here we will put the software rev number on all labels, that way, they cannot say we are wrong.  I guess.  This is in all sections.  I do it in k3, k4, not so much in k6, but it is getting more frequent.  And I am not talking about cpin, that is another critter.
And yes, that Jacksonville fan.......lol
ah well, what the air force wants the air force will get, but once I take over the military, I will stop that. :-D

If I understand things (slim chance), your boss is working feverishly to bring sanity to this requirement.  The Jacksonville fan is just trying to cover your(and his) tail.  It's easier and MUCH faster to put it on the label than it is to REALLY figure out if it affects cal or not.  If he writes you up let me know, I'll see what I can do...he's pretty hard headed though... :-)

We're taking a pretty relaxed attitude up here, general amnesty, followed by severe "time outs" if you reoffend.  Seems to be working...
