Agilent is splitting their Life Sciences and Test & Measurement divisions into two companies. Life Sciences retains the Agilent name.......
Any bets on the new name for the Test & Measurement side?

Just when I was getting used to the name Agilent.
Irony would make the new name Hewlett Packard

Considering that Hewlett Packard plans to focus on making printer ink, perhaps the new company could be called Compaq?
Just as long as they don't merge with any of the other quasi major test equipment manufacturers, I really don't care what they call themselves to be honest.
But it would be cool to have quality HP test equipment again. All of ours is slowly dying and/or being replaced with cheap junk. Half the time it is cheaper to buy a new one than to try and repair the broke one. Disposable test equipment, who would have thunk it?
My money has the test equipment side being purchased by Danaher in the next 12 to 18 months. Any takers?
Oh for the days of the "Big 3". America has lost it way!!
I'm surprised that Danaher hasn't been stepped upon for controlling to much of the market...

Considering that Agilent outsourced virtually all of its manufacturing offshore, I don't think it matters what they call themselves anymore. The engineers in Phoenix won't even discuss anything with a serial number starting with CN, because it isn't really repairable at all.
Sad really.
How long did Agilent last? 14 years?

I think it's because there are still places like Simco for cal and assorted little equipment manufacturers still chugging along.

I am not a gambling man, and I don't want to take you money..
But we can talk about you buying me a beer in 18 months?

They already have the service contract for Agilent, so it isn't a big leap from there.

Mike! You are on for a beer!
i hope their new cage code is better than 1LQK8. 28480, now that was a code
Never Happen--HP would buy them back first
I hardly beleive HP has any emotional connection to Agilent after 14 years, besides I dont think they are in the financial position to buy it... Thats alot of printer ink
I BELIEVE!!
I was talking to one of my contact at Agilent the other day.
This split will be good for them and good for the industry.
New Test Equipment Co, will now be able to pay share holders and invest back into R&D of new test equipment.
Mike.

Maybe they could buy HP out...
Just to gum up the discussion.... how about Rohde & Schwarz. They are a direct competitor, and might love to get their hands on the RF/microwave group...??

PLEASE GOD NO!!!!!!
If it were between Danaher and Rohde & Schwarz, I would almost have to go with Rohde out of the two. Maybe it will still be an independent brand with yet another name (bad move, I think). Maybe they will sell of the various lines... who knows.
I knew that would stir up the pot a little.

I would definitely prefer Rohde to Danaher if it came to that.
I dont see why R&S would want or need a bunch of junk in their equipment portfolio. Agilent has not made a decent piece of uwave equipment since the 8XXXx series.
If you havent looked at R&S lately I suggest strongly you do, they have totally repurposed their equipment interface and the capability and quality far surpass Agilent.
I personally miss the old HP days...maybe, hopefully they will go back to that however I highly doubt it...especially once they are under the Danaher umbrella..

I believe the 8 series was developed and marketed by HP, at least our 83630 was. I agree about the quality, Agilent dropped the ball when they started up. I remember you could talk to an engineer at HP and when they became Agilent the first question from them was if you had a contract or a credit card to pay for the time. R&S jumped right on that.
At least the verbiage of the press release does not sound like they are selling anything. It looks like they will just split the medical from the test and measurement. The medical group will retain the Agilent name, and they will come up with some new name for the test and measurement group (what they call EM - Electronic Measurement). So it at least sounds like no Rohde & Schwarz or Danaher (unless there are unannounced upcoming details).
I heard Danaher was planning on buying them.
I heard they had approached them in the past with an offer...
