Title: Best Pen for Writing Cert Labels
Post by: NCR on 07-10-2013 -- 18:02:11
I am pretty new and I have been trying out different pens to improve the look of my cert labels. Has anyone found the perfect pen for the job, or am I the only one looking?

We use P-Touch label makers with MetTrack.  But with the P-Touch software, I've made some "hand made" labels with the logo inserted.  It is pretty simple to make a label template. We use Brother PT-2430 PC (cheap model) for the most part (each tech has their own label printer).  I also have my own separate PT-9500 which is a nicer one.  It accommodates the really wide tape sizes.

If you must write labels, Sharpie's finest tip pen works pretty nicely.  There was another really fine tipped permanent marker I found at an office supply store that also makes very thin lines.  Just use a permanent type ultra fine tipped marker.

We have found the MarketLab ML0479 MoistMark marker the most solvent resistant that we have tried.

we can't use label makers or printers, our calibrations labels require tech's signature. we try a few pens but for instruments that sit outside, the sun would fade the ink. the only thing that seems to work are permanent marker with ultrathin tip

This is just an uneducated thought.  But for those that sit out in the sun, besides using a really good marker and overlay, I wonder if there is such a thing as ultraviolet resistant tape that could be used as an overlay (just a wild thought - don't know if it is possible or would actually work).

This pen is incredible for labels.  It has to be the Ultra Fine Point version @ 0.38. It is too fine for writing on standard paper however.

I agree with Velasco, Pilot fine point is the one to use for labels.
