Axiom Test Equipment, a supplier of quality used electronic test equipment sales and rentals in Oceanside, CA seeks senior metrologist.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
To establish and efficiently manage a test equipment repair and testing lab profitably. To test and repair both customer-owned and Axiom-owned electronic test equipment by performing one or more of the following: install, troubleshoot, modify, overhaul, maintain, test and repair. Assist salespeople, customers and management on technical matters and equipment operation, setup and recommendations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Checkout of all equipment (purchases, rental returns and RMA returns) for proper operation and evidence of customer abuse.
• Diligently update asset database.
• Determine parts required to repair equipment by trouble-shooting down to the lowest level necessary.
• Repair equipment determined to be in non-operational condition when economically feasible.
• Test / Calibrate equipment to insure it meets manufacturers specifications, using appropriate procedures
• Update item / asset database to reflect most current operational status of inventory and customer repair items.
• Generate forms to document time and materials required to repair equipment.
• Qualify and assist in hiring of technical staff.
• Manage and direct technical staff. They must remain efficient and profitable.
• Identify and establish working relationships with other test equipment repair vendors and sub-contract repairs to those vendors when required, according to their respective specialties.
• Generate repair estimates for customer owned test equipment.
• Maintain a high level of quality in all work performed with 0% defect being the goal.
• Assist customers in applications and diagnosis of equipment malfunctions and customer misuse.
• Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• Experienced and proficient in test and repair, to the component level, of General Purpose and RF/Microwave test equipment.
• Strong metrology background required.
• Must be proficient with network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, microwave sweepers/signal generators, phase noise systems, communications equipment and cellular protocols, as well as common GPTE.
• Excellent English writing and reading skills.
• Military calibration training and civilian lab experience
• Knowledge and experienced with schematics, wiring diagrams and other technical documents
• Strong circuit theory required with established troubleshooting techniques and testing methods to component level.
• Strong soldering skills in SMT and thru-hole technology required.
• Solid familiarity with current and older test equipment from Agilent (HP), Rohde & Schwarz, Anritsu, Fluke and Tektronix
• Ability to perform cost/benefit analysis to determine whether repair, replace or scrap is best course of action.
• Excellent research abilities
