Required skills Thorough understanding of metrology primary electrical standards, optics, thermodynamics, RF, and environmental measurements. Requires good communication skills. Must understand the application, operation, and maintenance of measurement standards and support equipment. Needs to have working knowledge and experience with calibration automation software. Ability to analyze and resolve complex measurement problems. Ability to develop and calculate measurement uncertainties in accordance with ISO17025.
Desired skills Experience with Met/Cal, Met/Track, Agilent VEE, LabVIEW, and SureCAL. Familiarity with Microsoft Access. Experience with Microsoft Office including Excel with VBA programming measurements.
Specific Job Description Provide engineering support to Metrology Technicians and Metrologists in the areas of technical calibration assistance and automated calibrations. Maintain and develop calibration of primary electrical standards. Develop and evaluate calibration systems that measure characteristics of electrical and optical standards to improve laboratory production and efficiency. Develop and maintain metrology measurement methods, procedures, and measurement uncertainty calculations. Develop and maintain statistical process control documentation to ensure measurement integrity. Provide information for and assistance with equipment capital planning activities, internal laboratory and vendor evaluations, and calibration laboratory system computers. Assist with maintenance of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI Z540.3 accreditation.
Standard Job Description Develops and evaluates calibration systems that measure characteristics of objects, substances, or phenomena, such as length, mass, time, temperature, electric current, luminous intensity, and derived units of physical or chemical measure. Identifies magnitude of error sources contributing to uncertainty of results to determine reliability of measurement process in quantitative terms. Develops calibration methods and techniques based on principles of measurement science, technical analysis of measurement problems and accuracy and precision requirements.

Typical Minimums Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 9 years of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered an emerging authority.
