I feel safe posting here regarding a family member (their eyes get glazed over on such forums)...
I am thinking of getting a particular family member a Kindle Fire HD. I just saw the Nook as well. I am unversed in these. They used to be monochrome LCD just for reading books. Looks like this new generation is almost a low end iPad / tablet PC.
The person will use it mostly for just reading books. But the Nook and Kindle look really similar. Any thoughts on which is a better unit. Not so concerned about getting the cheaper one, just want to get the best. Thoughts anyone?
Faced with a similar decision yesterday I opted for the ASUS Google Nexus 7. It's a sweet little tablet.
I really like my color nook. Had it for two years now and no issues. My friend got a Kindle HD and had to have it replaced twice in one year. The color nook accesses the internet for all kinds of fun stuff as well as making getting an electronic book very easy. Only thing it doesn't have is a camera.
My wife, Deb, loves her color Nook too...she finds it's much easier to travel with, and with so many rest stops having free wifi, easy to get a new book if she needs one.

My girl has the nook, uses it every where and loves it.
You all must have done a good job, cuz I bought the Nook HD+ the other night. Thanks all for the inputs.
