Post by: DJJ on 01-23-2012 -- 17:27:32
http://www.rsinsa.com/employment.php

I've been working here for about 6 months now. They're in need of bodies.

Sorry, have to ask:
"ASQ CCT certification is required for Metrology Technician positions"

WHY?

Well, the company will pay for you to take the test.
It's just something they like to brag about, I guess.

It's an open book test. Takes 4 hours. I completed it in 2.5 It was pretty easy common sense stuff, really.

On their dime, sure.

The way the announcement is worded, it sounds like you had to have it already to even be considered. Might lose interested applicants due to that possible misconception (don't worry, I'm not one of them).

Have a good one! Hope you get some bodies!

Yeah, I'm aware. Which is why I posted on here. LOL.

I just know we are getting a tiny bit backed up with work and could use some people - and figured if anyone knew of anyone looking - this would be the best way to get word out. :)

RSI? PASS!, have you worked for them? The lab is pretty good, lots of work to do and great opportunities for advancement if you are not s-bird. We want people here that know what is going on. This is not your run of the mill commercial cal lab or DOD lab. We do alot of actual Metrology here. If you want to come on board then you need to have your stuff together.

Chuck is here and working on video and power supplies.

Pay, I believe, is dependent upon experience level and such. But, it's decent. And in Texas, no state tax!

i guess Chuck's just trying to say it ain't all bad. don't diss what ya don't know and such.

i didn't post this to cause any arguments or whatever, i just thought if there was a fellow tech out there that was looking in the area, it'd be nice to know that something was available.

now, 'scuse me while i finish calibrating these microphone pre-amps.  :-D

Houston has some of the most oppressive weather conditions I've ever been in.  It's great from say, Oct - Apr, but the Summers there are horrid.

I guess that depends on what kind of weather you like. I like it hot, so I enjoy it here.

How many slots are open?  :-o

I don't know how many slots are open. I just know one person moved, and one person retired, and one person took a job in the oil industry recently.

That is funny.  I have been in all kinds of labs over the last 30+ years.  Only the last few years has the educational system decided they can make a buck by offering this.
Since I have done well in AF labs and GE labs over the years, I do not acknowledge the value of these tests.
  Guess I am out also.

Dang...Houston.  Say, when is commercial space going to land in Alaska (besides the Kodiak launch facility and the maintenance facility around Delta Junction)?  There is a huge untapped pool of displaced Clear AFS techs and others who are up there and plan on staying. They had established lives up there, and now they've probably had to go up onto the slope to work for big oil. Who is measuring the frontier eh?
