Title: One more year
Post by: Hoopty on 08-05-2005 -- 22:09:11
Well, it looks like I'll be at Keesler for an extra year, whether I like it or not.

It had been rumored for a while now, but today it appears that it is finally official.  The length of the instructor (and MTL) special duties have been extended to 4 years.  We all felt it was only a matter of time now that AETC has a new commander.  It seems that the last commander felt that too many folks were just "hanging out" in special duties, so he made all AETC special duties a 3 and out tour.

As it now stands, anybody currently in the affected tours and not due an assignment before Feb '06, will find that what they had anticipated as a 3 year controlled tour is now a 4 year tour.

Fair?  I'm not sure, but I do know that I couldn't have shortened it if I wanted to.  Personally, I was looking forward to getting back to the field as soon as possible.  Oh well... I guess I've got 3 more to go now.

Yeah, but that's three more years of enjoying your boat off the gulf coast. :-D It could be worse...they could send you somewhere with no water. Personally, I disliked all of my landlocked assignments.

You're right on that account.  I really enjoy boating in the gulf.

I'm going out to Cat Island fishing this Friday.

If you have to volunteer for korea to avoid mountain home unless you like the heat, brush fires, and a heavy drinking society, hunting , and are willing to drive 50 miles every winter weekend for something to do. Also it sucks there for a half geek like us.

Well, we didn't make it to Cat Island due to storms, but we did hit Deer Island and the Keesler reef.

Not a real good day fishing, but I did manage to land this nice little 17" speckled trout.

It's not too bad if you like all of the things flamy78 listed. :-D Mountain Bone is an armpit. It's even worse when the smell of cattle manure drifts over the base.

That's why I live in Colorado Springs NOW!     When you live in Clovis and you're down the road from such "garden" spots as Bovine and Hereford, Texas....  well, let's just say the air gets a bit "RIPE" in the summer....

You know you do get used to the smell of "Money" to tack on to an earlier comment by my esteemed former colleague OldNavy any assignment be it civilian or active duty is what you make of it.  I remember growing up and hearing horror stories on how awful Korea was and I went and I loved it (Air Force Brat yes I am).
