Title: PMEL Forum Upgrade
Post by: Hoopty on 05-21-2011 -- 01:03:57
So, I finally got around to upgrading the forum... It's been a while since the last one and it was time for a facelift.

This version also adds some better security features, which will hopefully keep the spam to a minimum.  It also has many new and useful features as well.  I will be exploring those and point them out as I find them.

For now, it's just the minimum forum functions, but I'll be bringing the missing features back online over the next few days.  Please feel free to comment and or suggest ideas as it's still a work in progress.

So, anyway, pardon the mess and it will get straightened up real soon.

Is this version mobile compatible?

Yes, the forum is now available through the tapatalk app. I thought that they had a free version, but when I went to download it, it was $2.99(for iPhone) I'm actually posting from it now. It's pretty slick, but I hate for people to pay for the app.

So, I've purchased a mobile theme for the forum and will get it installed once I receive it. It will detect your mobile browser and adjust accordingly, whether it's iOS, blackberry, android, etc. It supports most newer mobile browsers. I'll post back here once it's active.

And there is always the wap alternative for the older browsers. Just navigate to www.pmelforum.com/index.php?wap2

And you say you're only half geek...

I do like that Courier is the new default. Tech savvy won't appear as tech sawy and barn won't look like bam.

On another note - my "avatar" in the top frame is stretched while in my user frame on the left it is correct.

edit: Are you tweeting the subjects or is it part of your new layout?

I'm using tweetfeed to scrape the rss.  It is updating every 1/2 hr and it's putting each new post up.  I would prefer it to only post new topics, but it doesn't differentiate between the two.  I'll continue to look at other options, but right now this one works ok.

Hoopty,

New forum is looking good.  I for one appreciate all the work you put into this for all of us.

Thanks!

Check out the new mobile theme!  It autodetects the type of mobile browser and adjusts appropriately. (at least that's how it's advertised). I can verify the iPhone browser. Anybody else confirm others for me?  Thanks.

Sorry I have not chimed in until now, but I do love the new look (it did take some getting used to).

About the only thing I can find that I miss is an IGNORE USER button. Can we please have it? I have someone I really need to ignore!
