I'm definitely not interested in any of your positions so I'll say this for everyone else here.
Quote•   $18. 00 to $23. 00 per hour to start
is quite a bit low for a decent, experienced cal tech.

You're not going to get rich in commercial cal. Or well paid for that matter. Been there and done that. DOD, state, county, aerospace, and yes a few others tend to pay closer (and sometimes better) to DOL recommeded wages. However, someone with an enlistment under their belt or maybe a 2 year degree might find it to be a good stepping stone.

I realize this is not great pay but it does come with a company vehicle to drive to and from work.  with gas prices the way they are now.  This is worth something.  We are looking for an experienced tech but you dont have to be a Master Tech with 30+ years xp.

Just a quick bit of information for those looking into the DOL payscale for Metrology Techs. It shows $15 to $30 per hour which seems pretty broad. I definitely think $15 is rediculous.

I wonder how thier comission works? I had talked to one company that gave a 3% commision based on the amount of work you do. I billed 300k last year that would be a 9K bonus not to shabby.

Commission...really??? Never new that existed in commercial cal labs (for techs).  I know, I know, it always boils down to the persons integrity, but it just doesn't seem right to have quality affecting work be commission based or in part be commission  based upon $$$.  I wonder how many labs offer this type of incentive plan.  Wouldn't it be best to base performance on % rework, QA/QC errors, turn around time, calibration standard failure error reporting, customer complaints, audit corrective actions and findings?

Commission...... I believe comes down to integrity and professionalism of the guy doing the work! I know plenty of labs that do not offer any type of commission or incentive programs who are just applying stickers.

Exactly. If you are an honest person than the comission just serves as an extra incentive to always be working hard. Instead of spending your time on PMELforum making random posts... :=)

DOL wages in CA are over $31.00 per hour, which is way more than what any commercial lab pays. You have to look at aerospace, state, or military to get anywhere close to DOL wages. And yes, $15.00 per hour is ridiculous but I do know of one commercial lab that pays some of their cal techs lower than that.
