SO who is going to apply for this position for the interview process? Yes I can fly over to Hawaii today for an interview thank you very kindly...
What's the living situation out there?
the living condition is great out here.
Maybe expand a little, on the situation. Living cost, food, etc. . .
I think I could give it up here in Australia for a bit smaller island. . . I'm in!!
Used to live in Waipahu and Ewa Beach many years ago. We went up to Oahu last year and stayed in Makaha for a break. Noticed that almost everything in Hawaii was cheaper than here in Oz....go for it Spacenut.....
What is the outlook for the PACAF contract, heard some rumors that the government may be considering insourcing these labs? Any info would be appreciated.
I've heard the rumor too about the contract labs going back to blue suit. My source said it came from an AFMETCAL auditor. What I was told was that they wanted a mix of military and civil service at each lab. I know the goal at one time was to go from 1,400 military down to 700. I don't know where they are as far as numbers now. I have heard complaints that the military labs are undermanned right now. Now if they decide to go back to military, where are they going to get those other 700 bodies? I'm figuring they are going to force people back into the career field. I doubt they will bring back any of us old retired farts. Not saying it can't be done but it sounds like it will be a tough transition.
it's official. This lab is going Civil Service next year
Just Hickam or the whole PACAF Yulista Contract? Anybody know?
I used to love it out there. I was next door on the Naval Station. If not for the excruciating cost of living compared with the pay, I would love to go back one day (not looking currently - just loved Hawaii).

Would also like to know if/when the Japanese labs may go contract and/or civil service. Anybody in the know on this question, too??
From what I've heard, it's Hickam only. Starts 1 Oct.
I hope they will transition current contract workers to civil service position as part of restructuring.
I hope they follow the standard Civil Service hiring process. If you are a Vet, if you qualified, if you score high enough on the roster to be referred, then I hope you are selected. But to just take the current contractor employees and attempt to convert them to Civil Service without following the proper procedures is a perversion of the system and I hope that does not happen.
