Title: Advice for returning to PMEL Field
Post by: coolgreany on 10-24-2010 -- 14:34:26
Hi folks,

It's been over 25 years since I worked in PMEL (Schooled at Lowry 1981-82 and worked at RAF Feltwell 1982-85).   I'm now getting ready to retire from the USAF and wouldn't mind getting back to PMEL (don't laugh) since I like troubleshooting and fixing things!

I realize my training and experience are long outdated but I do have a EE degree under my belt (also fairly dated I might add).

Any advice for getting back in the game - I wouldn't mind a part-time or contract position either.   Are there any courses I could take using GI Bill.

Thanks for any feedback!

If you want to move to MA, Otis ANGB is hiring. www.usajobs.gov I think the announcement just closed but there will be another one soon.

Some or many of the contract labs are now unionized. This is for your benefit. There are not strikes. This is to keep our wages competitive and whatever else the union brings to the individual lab.  Since you like to troubleshoot inquire with Wright Patterson. I spoke to them about 6-8 years ago and they were actually looking to hire repair techs. I'm guessing you'd have a stamp but would be spending more time tearing apart items. I don't know of any other labs that outright will say they want strong repair skills however I suspect they do exist.
