For LA, your at least $10/hr to low. I'm in Texas where the cost of living is much lower and I make more than your range is for LA.

Best of luck finding someone.

http://www.bankrate.com/calculators/savings/moving-cost-of-living-calculator.aspx

i went to this site and it says if i made 50k in huntsville, it would cost me 72,712 in LA to maintain my income lvl. (all numbers approx. since i know calibrators love tolerances)   pretty cool site imo.

Might want to go to the next ITT graduation and solicit for someone there?

Not trying to be rude or mean, I'm just saying..... $20-25 an hour for someone with 6 years experience in RF/Microwave? In Los Angeles?

Maybe you can get lucky and find someone ETSing from the military and is from the LA area and they are desperate, but I highly doubt you could get someone who has ANY RF/Microwave experience outside of the military for that rate.......

Good luck.

*Edit* Just checked the actual announcement. Your "lab" has 30+ technicians? Wow, just wow. Gotta be a big box rental place......

A former employer of mine wanted to move me from Phoenix to Cali for a 3% raise, which explains why I work for Uncle Sam now...

This posting sounds like Electro Rent Corp. They always try and low ball Techs. And the amount of techs is right! Big Lab lots of equipment to work on if you want to learn  New products that you have not seen before. This place is good for people just out of school.

Why not disclose your company's name? Why the secrecy? Let me see. . . $20-25 p/h to work in one of the worst gang-infested, overcrowded, non-family friendly areas of the us? Gangs, traffic, SMOG, earthquakes, race riots, taxes, high cost of living, $20-25 p/h. . . where do I sign?

Even if you live in a lesser gang-infested area like Santa Clarita or Lancaster, you're still dealing with all the above.  LA lost its luster decades ago.  Even $35 p/h wouldn't lure most people on this forum. . . I might sell out for $40 p/h. . . maybe. . . if I didn't have kids. . . and was insane.  :-o

Wow! Rough crowd.  The recruiter is not forcing all of you to come work there but offers a job to someone that might want to go there or lives in the area.  I appreciate ALL job postings.

I pretty much agree with you fishheaded. They had the openness and honesty to state their pay range up front in the announcement. They didn't try to hide it with a "competitive compensation" statement or other head hunter smoke. There isn't a snowballs chance in hell of enticing ME out there for that, or even double that. So if someone isn't interested in the job at that pay rate, don't send a resume, I'm sure they will get plenty of other resumes.

Again, I apologize if I sounded mean or outright rude.

I'm just sick of seeing decent calibrators being underpaid and overworked by companies whose only goal is to post insane profit margins every quarter. Yet, when their best guys go to leave for a better paying job because they are sick and tired of 25 and 50 cent an hour raises every couple of years (if that), all of the sudden the company can pull $10/hr raises outta their rears because they know they have been getting over by underpaying their best techs for years. Sad thing is, most guys would look at the $10/hr raise and take it to stay.... only to realize that's the last raise they will be seeing for a LOOOOOONG time.

A trained calibrator with 6 years cal/repair experience is worth minimum $20-$25 an hour in most parts of the country with the LOWEST costs of living, never mind California.........

Yall wouldn't believe what I have seen some fellow calibrators making, even with 5-10 years at a company plus 5 or so years military. It's downright criminal! Should probably be ILLEGAL!

Funny you should mention the $10 dollar pay raise out of nowhere.  I'm in a simila situation with the company I'm leaving.  The standard "what can we offer you to make you stay".  My answer was easy though. . . "nothing"! I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep.

And yes my opinion was pretty blunt, but I'm more than a bit jaded with what I've experienced here and how poorly me and my fellow techs are treated.  ER is just another calibration mill, or better yet, 'meat grinder'.

I sure as hell appreciate an honest, decent, and fair job posting as we all do.  Kudos for those employers who offer real jobs at decent wages!
