ADVISORY CALIBRATION TECHNICIAN, RF/MICROWAVE
FUNCTION:
Provides training and advice for repair, calibration, and modification of the wide variety of complex precision measurement equipment utilized by the GOK activities. Provides technical and procedural advice and guidance to KAF personnel and other GOK personnel concerning metrology related matters such as the repair, calibration or modification of precision measurement equipment, the conduct of laboratory operations and the resolution of customer measurement problems. Provides in-depth technical expertise in one or more of the following disciplinary categories and can provide OJT or formal classroom training as required. Performs precision measurements, calibrations, modifications, maintenance and repair actions, and other functions as necessary in all areas of laboratory operations. Assists in obtaining and maintaining, laboratory QA accreditation.
This RF/Microwave discipline includes such measurement areas as impedance, attenuation, directivity, power, frequency (above 500 MHz), phase, pulse code modulation, VSWR, noise, sensitivity, gain; and encompasses the repair, calibration, and/or modification of items such as waveguide/coaxial frequency meters, RF signal generators, RF attenuators, spectrum analyzers, TACAN test sets, waveguide and coaxial directional couplers, RF power meters, VSWR indicators, slotted lines, RF Bridges, automated test equipment, and other complex RF/microwave equipment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. A working knowledge of the basic concepts of electronics and science. This knowledge shall include basic electricity, electronics, circuit theory, digital logic, algebra, and physics
B. An Associate degree in electronics technology from an accredited school and have eight years work experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating electronic precision measurement equipment and calibration laboratory reference standards. OR
C. Completion of a U.S. military precision measurement and calibration program, a precision measurement and calibration school at an accredited school, or within a specialized calibration firm, AND
D. Eight years experience operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and calibrating electronic Test, Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) Experience with equipment such as analog and digital multimeters, electronic counters, function generators, signal generators, analog and digital tape recorders, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and calibration laboratory measurement standards.
E. At least three (3) years experience in RF/Microwave calibration.
F. Demonstrated experience in troubleshooting IM&TE and calibration reference standards by making measurements with test equipment to identify problems to the component level and demonstrated basic electronic construction and repair skills including soldering and wiring – including the ability to perform these functions on delicate circuit cards.
