Title: Re: SENIOR METROLOGY (PMEL) TECHNICIAN - - AUSTIN, TX - HEADS UP!
Post by: Hawaii596 on 12-06-2010 -- 14:08:51
We did hire a person for the position above.  Due to growth and lab expansion, we are working on getting a requisition for an additional slot.  So this is not an official job ad, as we don't yet have approval for the new position.  But I wanted to give a heads up.  You can read the previous ad for informational purposes, and our HR department will post anything official.  So only what they post will be official information.  But to make sure folks that may be interested have as much advance notice (it is difficult finding good PMEL techs), I wanted to at least give a heads up.

A few details I feel safe posting are that we have a very growth, entrpreneurial atmosphere.  We are very focused on growing the business.  We've been strategically acquiring more standards to expand capabilities in various lab areas.  We have a growing temperature business focused on the semiconductor industry.  So the sort of people who might be a good match are senior PMEL graduates with extensive calibration lab experience in that sort of market.  We will probably be looking for someone with some higher end RF background, electrical standards lab background, some dimensional background, and ability to turn and burn with daily cals.  We do some on-site work locally, so not too much travel.  We're ISO17025 accredited, but need additional bandwidth from someone who knows how to work with uncertainty budgets etc.  The other detail that would be a big plus is background writing MetCal or SureCal programs (or other automated cal software).

Since this is only a heads up, I should stop there.  Any good senior PMEL techs
interested in the central Texas area (with top priority going to those already located here), feel free to send me a PM and let me know along with a resume.  We are particularly interested in PMEL school graduates (or equivalent). At least 15 years of calibration bench experience, as we do a fast paced volume of mid-level cals across a number of disciplines.

Thanks

If you are able to register, you can still hide your personal info if that is a concern.  Send me a message, we can swap email addresses, and you can email me a resume.

Just a little update.  We are actively working on proposals to get a requisition for this position (about the same as the previous position at the beginning of this thread).  A couple of factors I believe we will be looking for (although I don't approve the req., I am the one writing it).

We will be looking particularly for an electrical standards lab person, as we are in the process of trying to bring online some high accuracy AC/DC/Resistance standards.  We also want to do a lot in the next few years with automation.  So someone with really good programming skills writing Metcal. Surecal, Labview, HP Vee, or other languages will be a strong factor.  We'd love to find a person who can take over operation of the standards lab, and with the right combination of skills, this could be a pretty high end position.  An absolutely ideal candidate would also have some really strong RF/Microwave background.

We really want a well rounded technician, and we cover a lot of disciplines, but some of the above areas are a biggie.

This is a quickly growing lab, and we are looking for creative, out-of-the-box people who think entrepreneurially.

That's enough of a teaser for now.  I repeat, the requisition is not yet approved, but we are actively working on it.  I want to keep the fire's stoked for people in Central Texas who may be interested.  I know how long it takes to find good PMEL techs.

I am grateful that companies are posting jobs on this forum.  I also respect the right of others to express their opinions.

How lucky we are to live in a country that provides both.

WOW!  Good comment Winterfire.  Hope you're still doing well.  The previous comment was so random that I had to laugh.  That's kind of funny.  At first I was trying to figure out if I knew the person (or thing) that made the comment, but my second thought was this is a totally random comment from a nameless person that has nothing to do with anything.  It just made me laugh.

Is this position open for US citizen only? Just wondering if any company out there would be interested in hiring a Canadian PMEL Tech.
