Title: Hello and an introduction
Post by: NavyCalMaster on 10-02-2009 -- 21:46:50
Hi everyone! I am very glad that I found this website, the internet is a great tool sometimes.    My name is David Durbin and I am currently active duty Navy serving on board the aircraft carrier USS John C.  Stennis.   I have been in the Navy for 19 years and am about 11 months from retirement.   I have been a calibrator for about 14 of those years and have done many things including serving as an instructor at the Navy Advanced Calibration Technician School, Keesler AFB from 2004-2007.   I am currently a quality assurance rep and am looking forward to pursing a civilian career in the field of Metrology.  Just wanted to say hello to the group and I am proud to be here.

Welcome to the group...

Just remember, some of us old folks are cranky early in the morning..especially when the grandkids are over for a visit   :-D

Welcome.  I think there are probably a lot of USAF types here - I'm one of the ex-Navy types.  I was out before the Stennis was even commissioned, I think.  I got out of the reserves in 1987 after I had eye surgery and was disqualified from further service.  I loved the Navy (not the first year or so).  I particularly loved being stationed at Pearl Harbor for three years as a newlywed.  I was an ET1 with 10 years in, graduated from Lowry in 1983 and looking forward to figuring out how I can do the other kind of retirement.

Howdy  :-D

Ah, good ole Keesler- how I miss those wonderful condemned Army Barracks, er, Dorms for the AF types  A good bud of mine here in Huntsville did some time there as an instructor probably around the same time you were there.

Looking forward to enjoying retirement? Just think, now you get to start ALL OVER again  :-o

Sounds like your term in the USN wasn't too far off from mine.  I was in active 1977-85, drilling reserves in Kittery ME from 85 to 87.  Then due to eye surgery I was disqualified from further service.  I miss it, and loved going to sea.  I went to Lowry in 1983.

Is his name Brandon Kitchens?  I know he went to the Huntsville area when he got out.

Lol, one and the same. Used to instruct with him - think he is coming over my way now as a tech.

Tell him I said hello when you see him, quite a small world we have created, sometimes.
